Navigation of the unit should be the first thing covered in the lesson. P P.L.(.C. David Wills Makes All The Difference The manual for the BR-900 looks like it should be easy enough to follow but for some reason just doesn't translate practically to using the device. David Wills covers a wide range of the BR-900's capabilities and communicates them through easy to understand demonstrations. Whenever he demonstrates a function, the camera angle shifts to directly above the device so you can easily see the display and what buttons he is pushing. Even with a cursory vewing of the DVD, you will be able to create multiple track recordings with ease. The DVD is divided into sections for quick reference so touching up on more sophisticated functions like effects, copying tracks, mastering, burning a cd, and computer interface is a quick process. The DVD really is the next best thing to having someone come into your house and teach you first hand how to use the BR-900. P P.H. If you own a BR900CD digital recorder, you need this tutorial I owned a BR900 for over a year and was never able to use it correctly, consequently the results were poor. I referred to the handbook often but this was cumbersome and did not answer my problems. Then I discovered this tutorialIt really works. Presented in an understandable and enjoyable manner by a person with obvious knowledge of the BR900 plus an in depth knowledge of recording. Soon I had found all the answers to my questions, and then learned about functions never before used. I am now able to use my BR900 with confidence. The ordering was simple and delivery was prompt. There dosn't seem to be an explination in the manual. With arrangements just insert a break at the end (it repeats the last phrase over and over) With Patterns I guess just leave a load of silent phrases at the end. I am having problems too. Can you start recording drums patterns (in real time) at any point in the song. Mine goes straight back to the beginning. V annoying. Then choose which track you want to use. I have just come to find out that my pc doesnt recognise it so there fore I cannot whip the files off the Boss onto my pc, grrrr. I did manage to produce a cd with a song of mine on it but I hadnt mixed it down properly, it did work though as I burned V78 track which is all the mixed stuff together, but I found the volume not as loud.http://www.diamondsinthemaking.com/content/4-color-manual-screen-printing-machine As for drums, I cheat, I used the rythmn on my keyboard as you can record the keyboard itself with the rythmn, therefore the timing etc is bang on also. Casio keyboards have good rythmn patterns also. Hope I have been a bit of a help and if anyone can help me on the pc thing please fire away. Ta. Daff xx Then hit the UTILITY button, select EXPORT, and select WAV or AIFF. This is the only way to get the PC to recognize the BR-900CD. You need to ensure that the INPUT SELECT button is selcted for the Guitar XLR input. Then ensure that the SENS knob for that input is turned up, then the MASTER INPUT knob is turned up, then ensure that the MASTER VOLUME slider is turned up. You should be able to hear the guitar then. Hope this helps. Please let me know. For example if I record from track 2 the only way to alter the track volume lever is to change the track 9 level which also alters the drum level. Changing the track 1 and track 2 levels does not do anything! Computers (2,549) Laptops, Car Audio (255) Head Units. Please upgrade your browser to improve your experience. Note that many CD manufacturers have recently begun outsourcing their CDs to different countries and quality control has gone down. While certain CD brands have worked well in the past, this is no longer the case now. Look for CD-Rs manufactured at the Taiyo Yuden plant in Japan. Below are a few brands that we have had good success with: Taiyo Yuden, Discmakers, Microboards, Plextor, Apogee, BASF, HHB, and Mitsui Gold. Avoid common off the shelf, low quality and error prone CDs such as Memorex, TDK, Maxell, Sony, Imation and Verbatum. 2. It comes with a variety of features in its construction along with a built-in CD burner that allows you to work with up to eight simultaneous playback and two simultaneous recording tracks. The system also provides you with eight V-tracks for a grand total of 64 V-tracks. In addition to the durable hardware and easy carrying capacity, the recorder comes with a powerful lineup of high-quality effects worthy of the brand's name. You can enjoy versatility with the CompactFlash CF memory and CD-R software options. Additionally, the reverb, EQ, delay, and chorus functions enable you to establish a number of pro-quality effects, including vocal pitch correction and harmony generation. Overall, this is a great product. I don't consider this a true 8 Channel recorder. Tracks 7-8 are a stereo pair to which you cannot record separately. While I use my old VHM5 vocalist on those tracks for stereo background vocals, I prefer to have the option of how I would use tracks 7-8. Roland seems to thing everyone will use them as bouncing tracks--WRONG!! I should have done more research. The manual is, well, terrible.chicken-cage.com/d/files/concord-4-alarm-manual.pdf I had to access an online tutorial to properly program the drums after following the manual for several hours. However, it may just be me, but several other reviews concur. OK, that out of the way, the sound from this machine is crisp, accurate and clean. I was able to put together a basic song using acoustic guitar, electric guitar, lead guitar, piano, base, lead vocals and background vocals (yeh, tracks 7-8). That used up the 8 tracks but was all I needed. I use an M-Audio Fast Track with Acid Pro 5.0 for using loops and basically unlimited tracks when ever I get that creative. I have the unit hooked up to my surround sound amp via the optical output. I use this for the final mix. I also used the FX, pan and eq in moderation which added a nice touch to the recording. If the issue of tracks 7-8 is a problem, I would buy something else. A lot of great features for the price. Its takes some trail and error to figure out how to use all the devisesI decided to buy it cuz I don't have a computer. The portability and battery life is outstanding. The unit can be used on AC power and batteries at the same time although this is not specified in the manual. Verisign. Explore 0 Description Imported from USA. Read full review by izrsoblu 07 Aug, 2011 Boss BR-900CD not very easy to use terrible unit not easy to use.the Boss reps do demos to show you how simple it is to use and then I got mine and couldnt figure out how to get it to do what I needed it to do,I read the manual and couldnt figure it out so I bought the instructional DVD from Boss and still couldnt figure it out so after just using it as an effects pedal to jam along with I gave up on trying to learn how to use it,and sold it.if I ever do any recording in the future I will buy an old 4 track cassette type studio like I had years ago and used it with no problems at all.A lot of great features for the price. Its takes some trail and error to figure out how to use all the devisesBut once you get it down its a great tool for recording home made music. I love that it has v tracks, has a burner on it, the options for battery, the cool voice effects. I decided to buy it cuz I don't have a computer. And I went on Sam ash and filtered the digital recorders and this was the one at the end I wanted and I got it for a third of the price here used compared to new.The portability and battery life is outstanding. I haven't done much with the drums, but I may know what is going on. Forgive me if I'm telling you something that you already know. This will prepare the BR900 to bounce all three of your tracks together. Is that some kind of microphone or external pickup for your guitar? I've just been bought one, along with a DR-670 drum machine, and I'm having all sorts of fun and games trying to get the stupid thing to record anything. I pretty sure I'm following the instructions and I'm not looking to do anything complicated - I've got some tunes I want to put down and I like some of the preset drum stuff but for the life of me I can't get the bloody thing to record the drums. I tried doing the 'bouncing trick' but it wouldn't let me record the drums. I'm going bananas with this thing but right now, I'm looking at taking it back and getting another guitar. HELP !!! Oh, and does anyone know how you can use the drum machine (DR-670) and record the stuff on there. I've got it connected via midi but it doesn't mention anything about drum machines, just sequencers. Are they active ? Speak to David Gilmour (pink floyd) he uses EMG's.hahahaha. I believe it had some good instructions on there on how to record the drums. When I bought my BR900, it didn't come with a DVD. I didn't even know there was one until it showed up in the mail two or three weeks later. I'm not sure why it didn't come in the box with the unit. Mine didn't come with one so I'll go and have a word with the guys at the music shop I got it from. I have sort of got round the problem by using the DR-670 drum machine (although only connected via mono input and not through the MIDI ) and that seems to have worked o.k. - well at least I can put down some drum patterns and it does record them o.k. Appreciate your help.If I do this can i change the arrangment. I want this arrangment for the first forty seconds but then to change it for the verse can this be recorded on the same tracK? If I do this can i change the arrangment. I want this arrangment for the first forty seconds but then to change it for the verse can this be recorded on the same tracK? The drums are already on their own stereo track (sort of). It's like a 9th (and 10th) track in the mixer. When you finish recording all your tracks and you bounce everything down to 2 v-tracks (see pages 58-59 of the BR-900CD manual), the drums will be included in this mix. You can adjust the level of the drums within the mix using the Rhythm Guide fader control.See these pages on my website:The drums are already on their own stereo track (sort of). You can adjust the level of the drums within the mix using the Rhythm Guide fader control. Creating your own drum arrangements is actually quite easy. See these pages on my website:. Intro.html. ample.html Hope that helps. The second guide is for creating your own arrangment though isn't it. I want to use heavy 2 preset. I'm using this preset but it carries on playing. I want it to stop at a certain time and then for a different preset to start playing eg hdrock 3 but if I change it heavy 2 changes to hdrock 3. If the Rhythm Guide fader control was turned up during the bounce then, yes, the drums will be there.I want to use heavy 2 preset. I want it to stop at a certain time and then for a different preset to start playing eg hdrock 3 but if I change it heavy 2 changes to hdrock 3. However, you can copy the preset arrangement to a song arrangement and edit it, adding whatever patterns you like.Once you've done that, you should have a good idea of how to create an arrangement or edit an existing one, and you'll realize how easy it is.You need to learn how to create your own. If you like a particular preset arrangement, such as HEAVY2, you can copy it to a song arrangement as I mentioned earlier, or you can simply create a new arrangement using the same patterns as HEAVY2, then edit it to your liking. For example, HEAVY2 consists of the following patterns:They just play the patterns of the same name for Intro, Verse 1, Fill 1, Verse 2, Fill 2, Verse 2, and Ending. Then there's a 3-measure break, followed by the verse 1 pattern repeating indefinitely. For example, here's HdRck3:This is pretty useless for an actual song. So you have to create your own arrangement using whatever patterns suit your song. I think the preset arrangements were included in the BR just to give you an idea of the possibilities and to let you hear how the various parts (Intro, Verse 1, Fill 1, etc.) of a particular set of patterns (HEAVY2, for example) will sound together in an arrangement. Preset arrangements aren't meant to be used as the drum track for your song. For that, you need to create your own arrangement. Luckily, that's very easy to do. I don't know why beginners always seem to be intimidated by arrangements and avoid creating their own like the plague. There's nothing to be afraid of -- it's very easy. Try my example and you'll soon see that I'm right.I will be reading the v track and bouncing guide and then putting my recording to cd:) thanks alot.
