It has two condenser mics for stereo recording right on it. Display and navigation is easy. Recording and mastering can all be done right on the unit. You can also connect an expression pedal for real time pitch shifting and choose from a large selection of wahs. Don't forget to fully read the manual and update the firmware. Hook it up to your computer to be powered via USB and run your whole computer sound system through it. Remember, new features are available if update. Can anyone help with this? From what I briefly read about it, it's is usable as combined control surface and sound card. I see all communication goes via USB, so I would make sure (which you probably already have done) that the driver for USB MIDI is installed (for use as control surface), as well as a separate driver (ASIO ?) for the sound part. I guess the sound part is the easiest, where as the control surface part is more complicated to get to work. Both places you get answering machines to leave a message (no live person either place). I left at least 5 messages and sent 3 emails between the two of them. It is now 4 days later and have not heard from either one of them. The BR-80 has a lot to learn and is hard to figure out. A little help with a couple questions would go a long way. If you plan on buying one expect to spend half of your life learning it because you will have ZERO customer service and tech support.I am a professional technologist and I've used several other recorders (usually Tascam) but I just haven't got the patience or time to figure out how to get this thing to record the way I need to and the manual isn't very helpful either, making you constantly skip around and then try to put all the fragmented pieces together. Too late to return it now, or I would. Keeping in my little studio out because of the great rhythm tracks for practicing, but it has not fulfilled my expectations for recording.Sure, you can do most of this with apps on your smartphone for cheaper, but the instrument input jack and built-in microphones make this the perfect all-on-one tool for any musician. I've used it for personal multi-tracking and recording a small group. The sound quality is good. It is great for personal use, demos etc. If you want to make an album, you might need to go into a studio.
