Bigskeme a hobbyist user from oakland, ca usa writes: I was always able to figure out the older versions of the boss dr rhythm I have played with many versions before the 660 and have never owned a manual. I even have the 660 figured out to a certain extent but I changed the sounds and now they sound distorted and horrible and what ever I did I can't figure out how to undo so I am ready to dispose of the miniscule piece of machinery. I am wondering if the problem is no manual or not having the original adapter. Its gotta be better to buy drum machines brand new. Rating: 1 out of 5 posted Tuesday-Sep-24-2002 at 06:04. Yasodanandana from italy writes: i have made some professional records with it, doing mainly dance music. The emulation of 808 and 909 is quite good and the provision of separate outs is vital. Flash tool for xperia. The effects are not wonderful but surely usable. The instrument is very dynamic and the frequency response is wide and bright. The sounds are covering all the needs, featuring all the classic drum machine hits. My only criticism is that is possible to hear a little (very little) noise due perhaps to the converter.http://fugentechnik-koepple.com/images/boss-660-drum-machine-manual.pdf But in the 'real' professional life there is no problem. I recommend it, it's a classic and, for now, roland has anything in the market that is beating this. Rating: 5 out of 5 posted Saturday-Sep-07-2002 at 20:59. I bought this off ebay cuz it was a good price and ive heard samples. Alot of people bitch about the sounds but i think they are pretty good esp after adding effects and whatnot. Anywho my main gripes are how this thing looks like (by its 4x4 button setup) that its going to be an easy programable 16 step sequencer. Tis not the case you gotta hit the FWD button to go on to the next step and (for me) i dont like how the steps are named. I guess they did this for more pro people than me, that just like to call it button 5 er whatever but heres how it goes 100, 124, 148, 172, 200 thats where on a 16 step sequncer would be button 1,2,3,4,5. Takes some getting used to no huge deal. But i also like to see when i hit a specific pad all the places that that pad are at and you cant unless you scroll through all the steps. Would you like to try it too? Please try again later. The DR-550 MkII is the upgraded version of the venerable, original DR-550. Boss DR-550 Mk II manual. Learn more Thanks in advance!I don't really think it offers much as a machine. It was the first device I ever owned which I learned the basics of MIDI and I still have it (since 1994). The sequencer is pretty basic, but easy.aothuatdanang.com/upload/files/canon-imagepress-1110-service-manual.pdfSounds very bright (like my R70), not like an R8I don't really think it offers much as a machine. Mines been sitting in a cupboard for years now as I just haven't bothered to get a new PSU but I paid ?65 then.I tried sampling the 808 bassdrum from my dr660 into my MPC2500 and could not get the sample to sound absolutely 100 percent identical to the original source no matter how hard I try. There's always something slightly inferior about the sampled version playing back in the sampler. And like you said, the sample reacts differently (notably in the attack transients) from the original when pitching up or down within the sampler (even if I loop sustain the tail and use the sampler's envelopes to control the decay). I get 90-95 percent there but never 100 percent dead on with the sampler. FYI, on a side note. The basic tone of the drum samples sound Identical on both machines. However, the parameters of each machine can affect the sounds differently. For example, the maximum decay on the 808 kick is quite a bit longer on the dr660 than on the R70. There is a big difference in the tone of many of the sounds, especially in the bassdrum. With that said, I like the sound of both versions because they both have a unique character with good beefy lowend. My DR660 was my first drum machine and it is still part of my midi setup to this day and always will be. I had it since 1998. The little internal lithium battery that keeps the memory recently died (after 18 years!!) on it and I need to get it replaced. That's why I'm so glad I backed up all of my kits and sequences on this machine years ago via sysex!!! I can now successfully restore them anytime. This is a fun machine to work with whether it's used as a sound module or as a standard drum machine. Did you know Roger Linn design the sequencer. I was surprised (in a good way) to find that out later. I don't have a Roger Linn MPC but I do have my DR660 hehehe.https://www.helpfulhunks.com.au/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626c7915c65a7---a-manual-of-civil-engineering.pdfMines been sitting in a cupboard for years now as I just haven't bothered to get a new PSU but I paid ?65 then. To start viewing messages,Now have purchased a Yamaha USB-Midi Interface UX16 and after installing the driver, looks to be connected fine. Now the question. How can I playback midi files from the PC through the DR 660. I do not even know how this all works. So far I have tried several midi software which do show the device is connected properly. However,I do not know the terms as I am new to midi interfacing. So far I have MIDI-OX installed and ready to install CUBASE LE 6 just because I have them. Hope this makes sense, any help would be appreciated. JimmyZIt doesn't accept anything through it's midi in except midi clock. It would need to accept midi note numbers for it to be used that way, and it does not. In other words, what you're willing to get dirty and hungry for doesn't exist. You could use it's midi clock capabilities to sync it with Cubase LE 6, but then you'd either need to use either the preset patterns or, as a guitarist, get some rudimentary drum programming skills. If I was you, I'd sit with the machine for an hour and see how far you get. Start with a blank one or two bar pattern, make sure the metronome is enabled and start with the kick drum.Guess what? It plays the drum patterns exactly like the original tune through the DR 660 connected to my stereo. Been waiting 20 years for this as to avoid the lame manual beat programming.or worse yet.dealing with real drummers who never seem to TRY. It works great now after a trip to the House of Guitars and asking the guru in the shop. Now to get the bass tracks functioning and start jammin some guitar.Your DR-660 DOES accept midi note numbers.https://www.yoursurveysurveyors.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626c791bc8953---a-manual-of-clinker-plywood-boat-construction.pdf That's one to file away in the 'never make THAT mistake again' folder. I'm a guitar player too and my 'lame manual beat programming' skills are not lame at all. In fact, I've been at it for 30 years and if I wanted to I could program a part that an expert drummer couldn't tell was machine-generated. Kudos to you though for not giving up and seeking a second opinion. I know a lot about midi, but obviously not as much as I think I do!It works great for what it is and since I have no patience programming drums into the unit, the easy way is good enough for me and now enjoy playing guitar to some tunes I have liked over the years. For whatever reason,it has renewed my dwindling passion of guitar playing. Now I have another question.since the DR 660 also has bass, wondering now if the bass tracks can also playback with the drums.that would make things even better. Many midi song files have bass tracks. So far using the pad bank button,I can hear the bass tracks, but the samples are not bass.It seems it plays other percussion samples and can not seem to assign the pads to the bass samples. You seem to have this sort of stuff down to a science.maybe you know a solution. Also notice the drum kits change every time I restart the same song. Hope this makes sense. There is an easy way to do this - according to the DR-660 manual, the machine sends out program changes. First make sure the midi out of the DR-660 is hooked up. Put Cubase in record for a bar or so, select the kit you want on the front panel and press enter if needed. Now take Cubase out of record and play your midi drum track back. As far as bass lines, that would require your DR-660 to 'listen' on 2 separate midi channels. This is because individual drum hits use midi notes as triggers, while bass lines use midi notes melodically. I don't think the DR-660 is that advanced midi-wise, but I've been wrong before. Thanks for the info regarding bass and drum tracks played together from midi files.aokman-gearbox.com/d/files/canon-imagepress-1110-manual.pdfIt would have been great if it was capable to do so.Suppose I could be elaborate and run things through the 4 track and create my own.but too much like work for what I want it for.I play guitar for fun not work. It is called Sekaiju and is a free software and very easy to use.So that is it for me and does more than I expected as far as what I need here.Hope at least this info will help others looking for some basic midi file playback options using the DR 660.
