It must be powered off, and turned back on for it to come on again.But because i had to figure it out and solve the problem myself, it gets three stars. I ordered two heatsinks off ebay and put one on each side of the amp, and added a cooling fan to keep a draft of air on the heatsinks. The overheating problem is solved. This really is a great amp. BOSS should re-design this same amp with features that allow the heat to dissipate, it would be a hit.
