A side-by-side comparison of our reproduction manuals with those from many other vendors will usually reveal an overall better appearance, construction, and print quality. Sometimes strikingly so. What's the secret, because I'm pretty sure I can't work out how to get into them. The answer is going to be something really simple and I will feel daft but please will someone tell me. And, in anticipation of what I will find inside them. Anyone know a good supplier of Bose recones in the UK. Probably don't have to be Bose specifically, I can cope with copies. Thanks, Peter How on earth does one get inside them. Thanks, Peter The website spec sheet states that the baffle on which the speakers are mounted is removable. This will be the only way into the boxes. You have to pull off the grills to gain access, and once thats done you'll have to experiment to figure out how to get the baffle off. This will be the only way into the boxes. Thanks, Peter Wembley Loudspeakers will recone them for you Lol.How on earth does one get inside them. Thanks, Peter Oh lucky you. We were unfortunate enough to inherit some that have actually got mould growing inside them as they are such a nighmare to get into. You have to unscrew the 2 plastic rings on the front, then the section they are mounted on will come off, and you can unclip the grille. Then the only way of getting inside proper is to remove all the drivers - or the appropriate ones to reach the bits you want. Everything else is solid plastic and you cannot get in from the back. As for suppliers, you could try Stage Electrics www.stage-electrics.co.uk. Have fun! Regards, Shaz. How on earth does one get inside them. You need a specialist tool which isn't too hard to find. You probably won't be able to put them back together afterwards but that's not altogether a bad thing;-) Phildo How on earth does one get inside them. Post by Phildo at sea Phildo Oh dear.:-( Cheers, Graham The drivers are.45 ohms, so if any are bad just replace them fom Bose. Post by Pete Hello All, We've just been just been ermm lucky enough to end up with a pile of Bose 802's, in varying states of repair, most are faulty. Unscrew the large plastic rings around the ports, pull front cover off, test each speaker (listen and tap them to make sure they're tracking right), take out all problem speakers and replace with working ones from other speakers. If no speakers work, check fuse, lamp (probably a light bulb for a car tail light or something, buy from automotive shop instead of speaker shop), and the obvious connectors and wiring. Sell the working ones, ditch the incomplete or dead ones. No sense spending a dime to recone. Or does the lamp serve some other purpose. It's the same acoustical coupling principal that Bose pursues with the 402. Sort of like flipping a 402 on its side. This is why I cringe when I see a 402 mounted horizontally. I've done it myself, but I had specific design reasons for so doing.Do you concur with my explanation ?. Phil My studies in audio circuitry came to an abrupt halt after about 17 or 18 chapters of the course when I realized that if I wasn't going to work with it all the time, I wasn't going to remember a lot of it. I was right -- I don't remember a lot of it anymore.I am starting to lose faith in Dave as a Bose preacher.I have a pair here in stock that I traded in a long time ago. So I guessed that maybe 2 of these fuses had blown on the one which kinda works. This cab seems to be wired differently from the other one as well and when I looked - well felt the crossover thing (you cant see it) there appears to be none of these 12v fuses. Seems like 2 different MK's the one with the glass fuses has fibreglass in it, the other one that semi works has foam inside it - which is annoying as it is pretty well packed in there and I cant really get my hand propperly inside the speaker to have a feel around. BEDTIME.im going to continue my battle tomorrow, its a learning curve anyway:D Newer ones may have a lightbulb in series with the cap to limit the HF power. Someone mentioned that 4 drivers play very hight frequencys and some the lower frequencys. Are the four that are playing on one of these cirquits. On this one the wiring seems different from the others although it is hard to tell with all the foam in the way. Im sure I could work out what the hell is going on in there if I could see the damn thing but it is facing downwards and I can only catch a glimpse of what is happening in there. 3 of the drivers have 2 wires going to 1 terminal.According to him, you can see this outlined in the service manual and verify whether or not the device you are working on is factory spec or somehow modified by a well meaning but misguided individual.
