There is some rust on the woofer rings (high humidity down deep in the bayou!), but it does not touch the woofer or affect the sound. There is a slight smudge on one grill that you can see clearly in the picture, but from a foot away you cannot. The original manual is included. I replaced the bulbs with fuses on my 301 III's. I went a little further and mounted the fuse holders under the grill next to the tweeters. Easier to get to. As the filament heats up from increased current flow, the resistance rises. The bulb will be spec'd such that the filament will go out to protect the tweeter. This leads many to believe their tweeters are bad - very unlikely. Jumper across the bulb and see if the tweeters get going again. Lastly, wire wrapping techniques in the 70s were a very efficient method of interconnects. There are plenty of old computer magazines (Altair and CPM systems of that era) where this was used. How many times have you read about people unplugging and plugging connectors back in to get them working again. Or using something (cleaner, wire brush, etc.) to clean contacts? Lots! But I've never read of anyone EVER having to unwind a wire wrap and re-wrap to get it working. Now, what I have seen is the wires break, at the post of course. This is usually due to handling, and Bose is more the rule than the exception due to wires being exposed (once grills are removed). My 601 have a couple broken (tweeter) leads, and likely due to wandering fingers. Before ever ordering I watched the video on repairing my 128H speakers. It covered things I didn't know ( differences in diameter cones ), and fully showed the repair process. Not only that but Sean Ryan ( guy in the video ) actually looks like he's talking from experience unlike, the other videos I viewed. Honestly he looks like he could re-foam a speaker in the dark. Anyhow, warm fuzzy feelings that if I hit a snag I could call someone and they'd actually know what I was talking about. Plus other kits I looked at really do seem to come with the same white glue that we ate in kindergarten. The quality of the foam seems good too. Anyhow, after watching the video and reading their instructions I re-foamed two speakers on my kitchen counter in a Friday evening with no trouble at all and the speakers sound great once again. First time order from Simply Speakers and I have to say I like the glue that came with this order a good deal better than the two different glues received from the competition in the past.
