Lord and behold found a pair of the exact ones given up. The QC3 are much improved with better bass response than I remember from the QC1s. I was skeptical of the wireless types since conversion to Bluetooth degrades the signal (probably not noticeably since most music is already digital, but that was my thinking). One surprising thing is how long the battery lasts. I haven't timed it but I listen a lot at work and I only have to charge it every few weeks. The built in Mic is great and I can easily take calls on my phone and it goes right back to the music when I hang up. Sam 4.0 out of 5 stars There were so many alternatives I looked at such as products from Audio Technica, Beats and Parrot's Zik. However I decided to purchase these because I needed them primarily for travelling and didn't want anything too bulky. The noise cancellation is awesome - almost like losing your hearing - but still able to hear if someone talks to you directly. It removes background 'noise'. The sound quality is very good, but not amazing. They are a little heavy on low frequencies, with most tracks sounding a little boomy. This may be to some people's taste - but considering these are primarily for travelling and noise cancellation they are fine for my purposes. Overall a great product, with excellent noise cancellation for the portability. Not audiophile sound quality, but you couldn't expect that from an on-ear noise cancelling headphone anyway. Battery life is incredibly long giving a little more than 20 hours on a single charge. It also enables full control of iPhone functionality; an added benefit.In fact although the cover of the manual calls them noise cancelling headphones, inside the manual it refers to noise reduction. Bose also seem to aim them at travellers and frequent flyers, in my opinion it would have been much better to call them commuter headphones. I bought them because I walk to work every morning beside a busy road and the traffic noise was drowning out the sound of the quiet passages of music. These headphones make the cars sound like a gentle swoosh - the noise certainly isn't cancelled but it increases listening pleasure immensely. Just don't expect to be isolated in your own little sonic bubble. Sound quality: Good, a jack of all trades. Some albums definitely sound better than others, but I think a lot of this is down to production and mixing. Prefer them to my son's Beats solo. Build quality: Some reviews are critical but seem OK to me, but time I suppose will tell. I always put them in the case after use. Ear pieces: There are complaints that the ear pieces make your ears overly hot. They do get quite warm in summer but on the flip side this will be a boon in winter, a bit like electronic ear muffs.
