The CineMate is simple and straight forward to setup. As with any system, location of the speakers is important. Locate the small 'front' speakers to the sides of the TV screen, the subwoofer placement is not critical (more later), but because the amplifer and audio connections are located in the subwoofer, it must be placed fairly close to the TV unless you use longer cables from the audio out of the TV and then you are still limited by the length of the speaker cables which have custom connectors molded on. The front speakers provide sharp, accurate sound, the bass is good without being over powering. No, you aren't going to feel the bass in your 'gut', but then this system was never intended to do so. The Bose Cinemate theater speaker system is a must have if you want to upgrade the sound of your TV,DVD and or VCR output. There is ease of setup and operation with sound worthy of comfort in any small room. I have mine hooked up in my bedroom. I have not heard complaints from my neighbors as yet, but I've noticed that my wife has bugun to crank up the volume as well. Once the system is set up there is nothing to do but to turn it on and off as desired. The television speakers are turned off during setup, so your equalizer settings of your TV provide the desired Bass and treble. I have had to reduce the base and volume settings while listening to some CDs, but other than that I just turn it on as needed. An interesting feature is the universal nature of the remote when correctly setup. One can control other devices with the Cinemate remote. Pick one up and be prepared for a pretty lively room.I realize in many ways this is poor praise for such an excellent system which is a supplement to a TV speaker. So this system is a blessing. I did not seek exceptional reproduction of TV but to listen normally and not miss the blurred sounds. It does the job. Bose is a great telephone information and help company. Jeff G 5.0 out of 5 stars A solid job by the people at Bose, I am impressed. I simply have nothing bad to say. I've moved several times and unfortunately things fall in a lot of those processes, so I've dropped them and they handled it great. The speakers still look fairly new in spite of being handled. The remote still responds very well. The sound is still incredible. So much more than I could have expected and I will eventually replace this with another Bose. A great way to enjoy what ever audio you want to really enjoy. BravoTakes up very little space and if found for the right price a good catch. Once you do other better products starts to come into the picture. This model has been replaced so expect it to drop in price. If you miss the holiday prices be patient through the first two quarters of next year. Should drop. But this one worked just right for my living room. Assembly was not very difficult although keep in mind that you need to fund a right spot for the receiver as the receiver needs to be kept around 3 feet away from the TV and since my TV is wall mounted I had to keep the receiver on the floor. But once this was set up and I turned the speakers on - my family was thrilled with it. It had a very nice surround effect as well as when you turn the bass to full or even halfway the effects are amazing. We watched a 3D movie with this and the sound effect with the bass on full were excellent. The biggest plus with this was with the Universal Remote it comes with. I wanted to buy a Universal remote and instead of buying a separate one from Logitech I decided to use this one that came with Bose. And it worked great - paired well with my Panasonic TV, Panasonic Blu Ray and Xfinity. Only item it could not pair with was Roku Player (wish they come up with some firmware upgrade to make that work) but I know that's not possible. For 1 flaw can I really take a star away. Nah.Its a rockstar of a speaker system and 5 stars for that.Extremely easy and quick to connect and the sound is fabulous. I heard so many more sounds from everything I watched and especially movies. I had no problems or complaints with the sound or lack of sound watching blue ray movies. It was suggested I hook it up through my tv, not the cable box. You hear everything; even a leaf blowing across the road. As for the sub, it is so powerful, you don't even need to turn it all the way up before it rattles your house. Surprisingly, you can increase the volume of this entire system without any distortion. The sound will envelop you. Also, it's a snap to set up and operate. The universal remote is the easiest I've ever set up and used. Be sure to purchase the Monster M850 DFO-8 M-Series 850 Toslink Fiber Optic Audio Cable (8 feet) to connect to your television, as it is noticeably better than the audio cable that comes with the set. And don't forget the Monster MON129340 iCable 1000 for iPod and iPhone. Your music will come through stunningly clear; as if your listening room becomes a live recording studio. Also, the Bose stands are a must-buy to fully appreciate what this system can do. But If you enjoy watching television and listening to music half as much as I do, you will consider this as one gift that keeps on giving and giving. A truly extraordinary listening experience!Not sure why there's any difference -- the systems look the same -- but there is. Maybe it's the room acoustics (to be charitable!). Too bad Bose hasn't found a way to integrate the speakers with the tv better e.g. there's no visual indication, either on-screen or on the speaker hardware, what the current volume setting is. They could have put a display on e.g. the central control box to show the volume. I bought Bose because of the form factor -- don't like the look of the current crop of sound bars. The sound is OK and the form factor works for me. But the product has a lot of room for improvement in details.We had the opportunity to declutter our living room electronics recently so I replaced our old Yamaha amp and sound bar with this CineMate GS Series II. Combined with our XFinity Comcast DVR and we truly have a home theater now. Everything sounds so much better. The one thing I didn't figure out was how to get the DVR 30-sec skip function to work on the included remote. This was disappointing. If someone knows please reply. So I'm still using my Logitech Harmony Ultimate because it programmed the 30-second skip with zero effort on my part.The bigger the better, it seemed. The sound from this set is simply amazing. We normally listen at a regular volume and the sounds are crisp and clear. The sound does seem to fill the room. For those nights where we feel more like Movie Night, we crank up the sound and get the theatre experience without the sticky floors and texting neighbours. As soon as I look't Bose's various home theater systems which are available including reviews and price range. I whet to a local retailer and had alook at Bose GS Series II Digital, tryed the demo and was amazed 2 single speakers which produce 5.1 sound. After that saved some money up and now I GOT IT!!! the set was quite easy simple step by step, as soon as I was finisht I turned it on. And speach less work prefectly as intened. Anyway to anyone who may read this here is a few simple tips, don't buy it at full price unless your willing to spend the money. Wait for it to go on sale. 2 you may have or not have herd this system dose not support DTS if you own a Blu-Ray player, you have to go on your main audio player setings and swich it to PCM. In order to use this system with your Blu-ray plz note swiching the setings will not effect the sound quality. Other then that playing Xbox 360 with this bose system EPIC and anything else. The CineMate system sounds fantastic for cinema, with exceptional dialog clarity, enveloping spatial sound and strong, clean bass. You can spend a lot more and get a lot less! It sets up in seconds. Plug the woofer into the wall, plug the remote receiver cord into the woofer and place the receiver under your TV. Put each main speaker on a shelf on either side of your screen, and plug the speaker wires into the back of the woofer. Plug either a stereo RCA cord or a TOSLINK cable from your TV or player into the back of the remote receiver, and you're done. I don't bother. It has the tiny remote control. As expected, the CineMate II system is voiced perfectly for cinema. Voices are extremely clear, making it easy to hear subtle nuances in dialog. Rear-panned sound doesn't usually go behind you, but it's still far better than any sound bar I've heard. It's voiced like many cinema venues. It plays super-loud and has great bass, but it's not great for Hi-Fi eyes-closed careful music listening. It has some distortion audible in much of the range on pure tones, possibly added deliberately as part of the efforts to clarify dialog, and the voicing isn't great for serious music — but if you're having a party, it runs circles around any iPod dock. It covers the complete traditional music range evenly. Bass notes are wonderfully disctint, each with its own pitch and they sound staccato (detached and separate) if played staccoto. This is much better than many other home subwoofers that just boom the same note all the time due to too much resonance. I pop the speakers close to the side walls, far away from my screen, for the widest sound. Bose suggests not letting them get too far away from your screen. In any case, leave the speakers pointed straight ahead, don't point them towards the center of the room. Bose intends for the sound to bounce all over. The CineMate automatically selects whichever you're using: either the stereo RCA inputs or the TOSLINK connector. Bose is generous, but you will need to provide your own TOSLINK cable if you use one. To switch among different sources, feed your CineMate from your TV or other device that selects what you're watching. If this source also controls the volume, you could turn up the volume with the CineMate remote and then use only your main remote. Therefore you always have to use the Bose remote control to set the volume or turn it on or off, meaning you now have one more remote control to have to find just to change the volume. Therefore, I prefer the tiny remote that I can understand. I don't know about you, but I don't have a weekend to spend stringing wires, bolting speakers to the wall and screwing around with a hundred idiotic menu options on a receiver just to get it to sound right. I just plugged in our CineMate, and it sounds great! The CineMate is ideal for just installign and enjoying big sound immediaitly.
