Setup is easy: the sattelite speakers are identical so any one speaker can go anywhere, all you have to do is connect the correct cables to the speaker in the right location. The cables feel heavy and like they are made well, and the speakers even have some heft to them but the subwoofer is surprisingly light. It was sold new from 2002 to 2006, although I bought one new from Amazon in 2011 and third-parties still sell them new. It's got all the magic Bose uses to cram big sound into microscopic speakers, but when they use this magic to cram sound into speakers which are merely small, it has enormous output. This is about a half of an octave deeper than the much smaller CineMate, for instance. As few people realize, it's nearly impossible to get deep bass to propagate outdoors without the enclosed space of a living room. Wow. To my pleasant surprise, overall spectral balance and bass capability were about the same, with the biggest difference in that the 801s had precise stereo imaging, while the Acoustimass 16 had enveloping sound that came from everywhere. Of course the 801s had more output below 30 Hz, too — but most music doesn't have anything down there. I use only two of the speakers, putting one of the little speakers on each side of my desk, leave the bass module on the other side of the room near the wall by my remote-controlled receiver, and have perfect desktop sound. Make sure you connect the Sub Out on the 507 to the LFE In of the Bose woofer module. It will then ping just the woofer and treat it as subwoofer. I suggest leaving the crossovers and levels as MultEQ finds them in your room. There is no way to predict what these will be. That's the whole point of measuring in the room! If it's any other number don't worry about it, MultEQ is adjusting it to match the other speakers. The bass hits harder at the low end now rather than feel equal like it was the first time I calibrated it. Sadly to say I feel like I should have left it alone after the first time. The first time was more bass but it felt it was equal across the spectrum. Now my room is 10' x 10' is size range and I do have two beds in there, which a not of equal size. I hope this is not the reason my calibration is coming out awkward? Do you mean when the calibration at the very end comes out to 40hz on all speakers, does that mean small. The sub is marked 120hz after the calibration. And I was reading your above post to follow the Bose guidlines. I have the two knobs equalled just at default like Bose provided. Again My goal here is to achieve equal bass. I'm not sure I understand the problem exactly. So, do you have too much or too little bass. What level setting for the sub is Audyssey reporting after the calibration is finished? The speakers all come out all to 40 Hz. And sub to 120hz. Just to give you an idea the sub is at the front left corner of the room which is next to a couple glass closet Mirrors. Would this have anything to do with the different type of calibration. I hope not because I can't do anything abou it That can cause problems because the bass builds up there and tells Audyssey to reduce the level. This will send more content to the sub where it belongs. It's not the sub that is set to 120 Hz. That's just the LFE track and has nothing to do with the bass from the other speakers. That bass is redirected to the sub below the frequency listed next to each speaker (in this case 40 Hz). That's the most common problem with subs. It's not how bass is meant to be because it only emphasizes one note. Audyssey is setting the sub level to reference and its frequency response to flat (smooth) so that it matches what they heard in the mixing room. It should be exposing a wider range of details in the bass. If instead of reference you have a personal preference for louder bass then it's OK to turn up the sub level in the AVR. I think i fixed everything. What I did was move the sub farther away to the closet. And re calibrate. It sounds great! The bass is now prominent in the right places. If you change channel it sometimes (but not always) turns it back on or if you turn it off and on again at the socket. It seems to do it when the sound is turned down below a certain level. Is this a feature I haven't bothered to read about in my manual. If so, how can I stop it from happening (without having to read the manual, which I'm not big on as you might have guessed). I don't really want to do this as I'd have no replacement. Especially if it's a setup problem. Anyone got any ideas about this? P.s. I have set the speakers to large and as far as the connection question goes, the way it's supposed to be. I think. What do you mean exactly. They gave me cables. I plugged them in. Thanks to all for your replies. I just put it down to me watching a normal channel in surround and not DD and the fact that there wasn't much bass.as soon as the adverts came on it woke up again. If it's TV it won't sound as good as a DD sound track and will sound a bit tinny. I don't have the sound turned so low that you pull a muscle straining to hear it but it looks like the bass just gives up after a while. Like you say, sometimes it turns itself back on again. Is this something I'm going to have to live with until the boy is a bit older and I can crank the volume up again. By which time he'll be trying to cram his pop tarts in my DVD player.
