Sherrie Brownell 2.0 out of 5 stars The mechanics of the system is inferior to earlier models. I have had a Bose music system for many (20) years- the earlier models have a flip up top lid that allows you to easily remove or readjust a disc that is not running properly. For the new system you insert a disc, and you cannot get into the area where the disc is. This new unit rejects any disc that is not standard -- so if the disc is slightly thicker it will not play. I inserted a new La Boheme CD, and the disc immediately became stuck in the unit. Over the past 6 months CDs often become stuck and I have to turn the unit off and on - reset- and sometimes resort to sticking an object gently into the slot to try and dislodge the CD. Each CD must be placed into the unit with the utmost care, so that it does not go into a failure mode. Really frustrating to deal with, and the unit was 500. I know this machine will fail, and it just a matter of time. No way! I'd rather have the old design that reliably works back. Another example of trying to make something that is attractive but doesn't really work. A gorgeous apple that when you bite into it, is bland and mealy. I big disappointment. I will go with another unit next time, if there is a competitor.This was not a feature in the first two Bose units and we do not want an alarm to sound. Bose customer service told us this was a defect, that the alarm should not sound at the end of the CD playing. We were instructed to ship it in for repair. This took quite some time. When it was returned - it still sounded the alarm at end of the CD play. Our second round with Bose Customer Service initially confirmed that the alarm should NOT sound. Also, we were told that the first CS rep had not correctly recorded the defect that was supposed to be repaired. So the shipping and repair was a total waste of time - and WORSE, it lulled us into delaying return of the unit through Amazon so we missed the AMAZON 30 day return deadline. After our second long phone session with another CS rep, who TWICE confirmed that alarm should NOT sound, they then changed their story to this being a new FEATURE. We asked for our money back and they refused. To be fair, the sound is good. This is what Bose was historically known for. If you want want to buy one of these units test it first at a real store and if you do buy one, buy it from a brick and mortar store where you get real customer service. Bose customer service is a joke and you will waste your time on the phone with nice but totally ineffective telephone operators in some other country with no knowledge of the product and no ability to resolve your issues. After a couple years of frustration I decided to never buy BOSE again. EVER! Go with Onkyo CS-265.Then yesterday, I noticed that it had gone silent and the display was black. Then the display flickered once, twice, went black again and stayed black. Unplugging the unit to reset and then plugging it into other, known good outlets in my House didn’t bring it back from the dead. I'm hoping Bose customer support will make this right.It took over an hour in total, over the course of three weeks, to straighten out what was being returned, the sending of the return labels. It is clear that this is an out sourced operation, so the language barrier contributed to the frustrations. Great device, well made, easy to use, excellent sound, but purchase through Amazon and not directly through manufacturer.This is great all over. If you old school like radio or CD. Or you like wifi or bluetooth. This has it all. The bass is great and can be adjusted from your phone. No need to antenna because this has great frequency.It was well worth the wait; very well constructed, and easy to operate with the included remote. And the sound!!! I'm 76 years old, and my hearing has slipped somewhat over the years. But listening to music (so far jazz, classic rock, AND classical) have all come to life for me. Brian K. Streb 1.0 out of 5 stars Returning in in the morning, Black unit came with white wireless control unit. No antenna wire. No manual. No paperwork whatsoever in the box. Plugged it in. Lights do not come on. Only radio works, barely. There is no CD player in front of unit as shown in picture on Amazon page. Wireless control does not operate any CD functions. I am VERY frustrated and disappointed!Delivery was on the day it was supposed to come, and you would be hard pressed to tell it from new - it carries the full factory warranty. I'm not satisfied, I'm thrilled!I do not fall into the latter category. I find the print difficult to read because of the font size. I was very surprised to discover that this radio cannot be used WITHOUT the remote. BOSE must have had a very good reason when designing this item, but I can't imagine what it was. Value for money - I'm not convinced. I've given it four stars. Perhaps I'm being unreasonable.I never thought of myself in the Bose target audience. I have 4 component stereos in the house, all of them much more costly than this little stereo. But I wanted to replace the component system in the bedroom with something smaller. We just used the component system to play CDs and didn't need anything fancy. I wanted good sound without a big footprint. A friend had this player and really liked it. I stayed in a hotel room that had this unit and was very impressed. So I bought it. I am very impressed. I suspect this is to help fill the room. A few feet away from it and it sounds great. The unit is compact, the sound is fantastic for something this size, it doesn't vibrate, the bottom is padded to protect furniture, the remote is easy to use. There are, of course, certain limitations--though the sound fills the room, it still essentially coming from a single point, unlike a multiple speaker system. This should be obvious. For what it is--a compact, table top music source, it sounds great. Some folks mentioned the lack of buttons on the unit. The only button I really miss is the 'eject' for the CD. I'm not thrilled with having to buy another remote, but they are cheap and it's not a big deal. I did research other options by other vendors, but I didn't feel anything else quite had the handsome appearance this player does. Although looks aren't my number one criterion for choosing an audio device, I didn't want to buy something that was ugly. This player sounds great and looks great. Definitely worth it for my application. Highly recommended.I know!) It plays CD's on repeat and has been running basically non-stop 12 hours a day for AT LEAST 3 years. We are buying this one for our basement apartment, it does fill the room with sound, from Classical music, Hard Rock, to my wife's country music. (ugh!) So obviously we LOVE the unit, but I am going to be honest and list some complaints: Cons: 1) I thought the newer model would have AT LEAST A USB port and a Iphone port at least to hook up an IPod or USB Stick to it. (They do have an IPod adapter but for 500 bucks it should come with it) 2) Lack of controls on unit.I personally love this unit, downstairs or in a studio apartment this WILL fill your place with sound. We have ours in our Den and when we crank it up it sounds pretty damn good throughout the house. There are some tricks to boost the bas (put caddy corner in and outside wall corner etc.) but the unit is simply very very well made and nice sounding. Plus BOSE has great support you can even bring your unit to a Bose store. try it. you can always return it.But being so small I didn't think it would put out so much bass. I wish there was a way to adjust the bass output. It's really too much in my apartment. Kind of silly that a high end piece of audiophile equipment like this doesn't have a some sort of equalizer or way to adjust the sound. Have had it for several years and it's still working fine. I usually leave it on for several days to weeks at a time on a classical or jazz (less bass than rock) radio station when I'm out of town. No issues.She loves it. Plays classical music for her parrots on it while she works on her laptop most of the time. Sound is crystal clear - true to classic Bose quality. You get what you pay for, and this unit does not disappoint. Was also pleased to find that the remote actually functions properly, unlike most players. My question is will the newest 10.4 disc work in the earlyer units? Oil level good, so I changed oil and filter (3,200 miles on old oil) I didn't help. So I replaced the oil pressure sending unit, didn't help. Replaced the oil pump and pickup tube, same. It is cooler now and no problems so far could i be low on fluid or is this a. Riding rough. Looking at changing out shocks. Seems the best path forward is to install a conversion kit and do away with the air shocks. Was hoping for some insight. Have read that you need to install bypass electronics, OR you can just pull a fuse to avoid errors. Now have no URPA or reverse lights. No blown fuse that I can find based on all posts here. What fuse or relay would run both.I was wondering if anyone else has high miles in their truck and if so did you encounter any problems? I haven't had a single problem and its been running strong. The quote is a good reminder that breathless language is not unheard of in the audiophile space—nor in the history of Bose. Whether or not you feel the company's Wave speakers are any good, there's one thing that can't be debated: The man whose company still sells those speakers was a brilliant guy whose innovative spirit can't be defined by a single product, nor his marketing team. As a 2005 Popular Science profile notes, he was ably taking apart all sorts of devices as a young teenager. He even built his own television. And his smarts proved an effective ticket to a career in academia. As a Massachusetts Institute of Technology doctoral student in the late 1950s, he grew frustrated with the poor audio quality of the high-end stereo system he bought himself as a reward. That success allowed Dr. Bose, who remained an MIT professor in the midst of his company's success, to further experiment on all sorts of different projects at Bose, including (most famously) noise-cancelling headphones and (most ambitiously) a car suspension system built for smooth rides. One of those projects became the basis for the Wave line of speakers, designed by Dr. Bose with the help of Dr. William Short, a fellow former MIT student.
