By design, all Katana amps feature an instantly familiar interface that makes it easy to dial in and save great sounds on the fly. But there’s even more power under the hood, and it’s all accessible via the free BOSS Tone Studio editor. Read on as we check out all the cool things you can do with this powerful editor for the Katana amp series. Before installing them, carefully read the instructions provided with the downloads. To get a PDF instruction manual for using BOSS Tone Studio with the Katana amps, click on the Support tab at your amp’s product page. You can tweak amp tones, load and customize different effects, save and recall Tone Settings, and more. The software directly interacts with the amp, allowing you to intuitively create sounds as you play. Any editor adjustments you make are immediately reflected in the amp, and vice versa. Editing Amp Tones With fine control of each parameter from 0-100, you’re able to make microscopic tweaks and dial in sounds to perfection. With BOSS Tone Studio, you can audition and edit these effects, and then load them up in the Katana’s 15 available onboard storage locations. You might find this desirable when setting up the effects chain, which we’ll discuss coming up. Effects Chain As a general rule of thumb, you’ll want to use wahs, compressors, overdrives, distortions, and boosters in front of the amp, and reverb after the preamp. With mod and delay effects, it depends—you might want to use them in either location, depending on the sound you’re after. Three different chains are available, as shown in the following image: Each effect type has a full set of parameters to adjust, similar to what’s available in the GT-100, BOSS’s flagship multi-effects unit. This can be helpful to tame background noise with high-gain sounds. It can only be adjusted with BOSS Tone Studio; there are no controls available from the amp’s panel. Unlike a simple noise gate, the Katana’s noise suppressor intelligently follows the sound’s natural decay, so it won’t harm the character of your tone. Just click the WRITE button in the upper right corner of the Editor page, give the setting a name, and save it to the desired destination (CH1, CH2, CH3, or CH4). Librarian and Live Sets Basically, Live Sets provide a way to store and organize Tone Settings into groups for different gigs, songs, recording sessions, or whatever you want. When you want to load them into the Katana, just drag them to the desired locations in the left side of the screen. Simply click on the TONE CENTRAL button in the lower left corner to browse the many Katana Live Set collections created by top pro players. You’re able to audition audio demos of the sounds, and directly add them to your local Katana library. Here, you can adjust MIDI, USB, and device settings, download the latest Katana owner’s manual, and more.Clicking this opens a screen that allows you to jam along with WAV songs stored on your computer. The model takes into account factors including the age of a rating, whether the ratings are from verified purchasers, and factors that establish reviewer trustworthiness. Not only did I hit this goal, but it's louder the I ever imagined. I added a Capicitor mainly because I got it as a bonus. FYI, Before I had the capacitor installed I didn't have any issues with power. I am using 8 gauge power and ground wires, and 6 channel Stinger RCA cables. I did run into some engine noise at first, but then I found out you need to run RCA opposite side of power wire. Rookie mistake on my part. Once I changed my mistake by re running my RCA cable away from my power Line, all my interference noise stopped. So far one month after my installation my intuition was correct, because I have yet to have any issues that wasn't corrected from me being a rookie. Matching your gains on all amplithfilers is very important for audio quality and Ampliphier performance. This is the main problem for all Ampliphiers not performing correctly and not lasting. There are Lots of helpful hints if you search How to tune your AMP on the internet. I'm guessing this could be some of the problems the lower reviewers guys could be having. This AMP gets plenty loud, and provides lots of power. When I run music at normal levels My AMP stays cool and runs fine. When you run it hard it does get warm but not to hot to touch and sound great. I installed this under my passenger seat in my 2004 Chevy Tahoe and it fits perfect. People with smaller cars pay attention to dimensions because this AMP is a monster. My friends were easily impressed by the sound and the cool look the way it lights up especially at night. I went expensive on an Apple Car play receiver and Boss really helped me out by giving me an affordable option to continue to add to my expensive receiver at a very affordable price. It's a no brainer if you're in the market for a dive loud system, just make sure it's installed correctly before writing a review. I made lots of mistakes but after researching my problems I got it performing like a Boss. The Phantom 3700 gives you plenty of options to achieve your goals and a great option for people with limited resources. Keep in mind when you're costing Ampliphiers out, the hardware such as wires cables conectors ect: can get very costly ontop of your equipment. I spent almost as much on hardware as I did on the Amp. Boss makes this less painful by giving you such a good deal from the start. I decided to spend less money on the Amp and more money on the correct wires and cables. Try it out, install it right and you'll Love it!It's stupid loud, which is what my teenagers wanted. Fairly easy to install and telephone tech support was quick and helpful in matching up all the channels with the right speaker wires once everything was wired. Would buy this brand again. Two of them ended creating stripped threads, and would not tighten into the amp anymore, would just continue to spin as you tried to tighten it down. Then the reason I had to return the product at the end of the day was that my audio would randomly shut off on long drives, and then resetting the headunit during the drive brought the sound back, but it shut off pretty quickly. I assumed it might be overheating and I believe I was right. I returned the product and purchased a Pioneer 5Channel and haven't had a single issue with the Pioneer so far, so clearly the Boss Amp was having issues. Would not recommend this unit. All speakers are putting out their full rating and there is no sound distortion. I still have another 2 6x6 speakers and 2 more tweeters to install, this amp should be able to handle them all. Definately a good value.I turn up the volume on the amp and the protection pops on at vol lv 15, and it's not even loud. I understand there is a difference with current music and the older (back in the day) music. The recording was different, better equipment now. In other words, older music you may have to turn it up a little more. But that's not my case. I had a Rockford Fosgate that gave no probs.going back to!Definitely does not hit the big numbers it advertises. But that being said for the money this amp is a real performer. I am running a type R 10 with JBL components in the front and OEM in the rear in a Honda Hrv. The sound is clean crisp and responsive. The amp delivers on every point an amp in this price range should. I would highly recommend this amp to anyone not looking to spend huge money on a audio system.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I have 8 x 8 inch speakers hooked up to the 4 channels and it's way more than enough power. However the sub channel 5 is very weak no where near the rated output of 1125watts. At that rate I should be able to run 2 350watts subs but it wont even power one properly. The amp is very good for the price. If you buy dont expect much from the sub channel.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Powering 10 inch pioneer sub and 4 kenwood 6x8s sounds pretty good doesn’t go to loud.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again It sounds amazing. So amazing that I bought another one for my truck but with a boss subwoofer that can go down to 2ohms. My friend has one and my dad wants one. Everyone should get this amp really is amazing. Don't forget a power cell and sealed sub box for the extra thud.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I can't get 200watts RMS out of it for the woofer. Looks VERY nice though.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again However when first installed it did not turn on and began to smoke from the cooling fins. I killed the power double checked I never hooked it up wrong. Tried it again and it started working. I hope it keeps working(fingers crossed). I think the amp is over rated at 3700 watts.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again So far it has amazing power and clear sound. Will update I about a month and see how it holds up. But so far amazing sound and power for the moneySorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I have it working to drive two components and a sub woofer.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Adjustment knobs work fine and filter different levels of sound - over all works nice and for the price a perfect amp for my needsSorry, we failed to record your vote. Thanks to its simple knob-based controls, two-channel operation, and ability to model the best amps ever made, the brilliant GP-20 is a tonal monster for live or studio applications. Now with the new MKII update, you have even more reasons to love these now, industry standard combo amplifiers. The fact that this amp partners expressive tonal response via 5 original amp characters, with variations on each AS WELL as a world of effects makes it an impressive amplifier for professionals. Best of all the amps have remained at a price tag that appeals to players of all levels. The BOSS Katana is essentially the swiss army knife of amplifiers, providing a world of tonality and expressive ability without becoming overbearing and difficult to use. Whether you're looking for a beginner amplifier that you won't have to upgrade or a new addition to your live set up - they're a great choice! We might like heavy metal AND country, we might love grunge AND blues, so we need an amplifier that can do it all. You have a lush Clean channel which is natural and transparent, allowing the tone of your guitar to breathe and really shine through. You have a Crunch channel which provides all the satisfying grit and distortion for Grunge fans, Metal fans and those who love to add some serious riffage into their sound. You then have the Brown setting which is inherited from the Waza amp offering up the higher gain Southern Rock classic sounds and the California Brown sound. You’ve essentially got 5 different amplifiers at your disposal that actually sound good, which means you've got 5 amplifier settings that you can flick between and sculpt to your own specifications. This is like taking an entire studio’s worth of amps on tour with you, or just having them in your living room. Now, with the all new MKII update, you have the awesome Variation Button which adds 5 new amp sounds on top of the original Katana MKI sounds. This allows you to push your sound further! This program allows you to select which 15 effects you want to load onto your amplifier and edit each effect to your exact specifications. You can even select which order you want your pedals to appear within the effects chain via the Boss Tone Studio for when you really care about your tone. You have access to a massive range of distortion, delay and reverb effects as well as a huge array of powerful tone shapers like pitch shifting, ring mod and even new editions of SDE-3000 delay, Phaser 90E, and Flanger 117E effects. Thanks to the MKII upgrade you also have a range of of new effects in Poly-Octave and Pedal Bend (whammy). This makes it a LOT easier than carrying around a pedalboard for sure.We don’t always want the same amp settings throughout an entire set, nor do we want to have to change the settings by hand should we want to make some tweaks for a song. With that in mind, the team at BOSS have created the Tone Settings feature which gives you the ability to store your favourite amp channel and effects setups for instant recall. If you have a song that requires certain distortion effects and high gain amp settings and the next track needs a cleaner tone but you don’t want to have to fiddle with the dials in between songs, this can really come in handy. The Tone Setting memories have also increased from two to four (two banks of two), so you can instantly recall your favourite settings from the footswitch or via the amp! So what's new? You now get the Roland DC-30, BOSS GE-10, and 95E pedal Wah added allowing you to access these effects as soon as you update your amp. That's a LOT of different effects at your fingertips (and at your feet!). Thankfully the team at BOSS have remedied this, ensuring the BOSS Katana can now control specific effects parameters from up to three of your favourite expression pedals connected via the rear panel. Best of all you can even use the optional GA-FC foot controller and enjoy the same control. This update now provides true stereo sound with a wide range of the Katana’s modulation, EQ, delay, and reverb effects, including the newly added DC-30 Analog Chorus-Echo. This means you can record with the same stereo effects as you would hear them live - no more editing stereo pans in the mix! So, we thought we’d answer the most common questions. You can use the BOSS Tone Studio App via Bluetooth to control your amp sounds, shape your tones and even unlock exclusive effects. You can also stream music wirelessly through the amp via your Android or iOS device. Be warned though, as all your currently stored settings will be overwritten with the factory default settings. Factory reset procedure: If you have a Katana 50 Amplifier, you need the FS-6. The Boss GA-FC changes all four channels on the Katana 100 and can also be used to switch between internal effects and turn the Effects Loop off and On. The Boss GA-FC is designed to work with the Katana Artist, Katana 100 1 x 12”, Katana 100 2 x 12” and the amp Head. We’ll start with smallest to largest. And with this new update - it's an even better deal. These new Katana MK2 versions have 5 extra amp sounds and a world of new features that guitarists will love. You can read more about the differences HERE. But in a nutshell these are the new features: SHOP KATANA AMPS Updated 2020-05-21 We've rounded. Is it a worthy addition to the legendary British band’s weighty catalogue? Here’s how to fix it. As the street prepares to enter a new phase, we look back on its iconic past. Is it a worthy addition to the legendary British band’s weighty catalogue? Here’s how to fix it. As systems go, it’s a whole lot easier than stuffing 10 amps into the boot of the S-Max. Obviously, each dial can only control one parameter, but five buttons along the top let you switch between three different models for each effect type, and there’s a tap tempo button for the delay. Deeper control over the effects is possible, but requires external software; we’ll come to that in a moment. More control is available; but again, we need to look beyond the amp itself for that. The former lets you connect to a PC or Mac and access a library of fully editable effects and amp tones, allowing you to fill those four preset slots with pretty much any sound you can imagine. The latter isn’t quite so exciting: it’ll only work with Boss’s single and dual footswitches for basic preset switching, or with an expression pedal. The six-switch GA-FC (?79) is much more practical for live use, but that only works with the 100-watt Katana models. The lightweight fibreboard cabinet feels solid enough for the price, but the two rotary switches don’t click into place with any confidence and the concentric pairs of controls sometimes stick together. Also, the whole control panel of our review amp has an intermittent habit of shutting down when you adjust the FX knob, requiring a restart. It’s a small combo and things can get a little congested when you push it hard, but there are some great sounds on offer here right out of the box. The low-end power and midrange clarity are truly impressive, even if the Katana-branded speaker wants for a little refinement in the top end. And there’s a fair bit of natural grit available, even without switching up to the crunch setting. And those extra amp variations. It’s certainly loud enough for modern venues, but as we’ve seen, you will be limited for effect-switching options unless you fancy using a separate pedalboard. You can always unsubscribe (so you won't receive any more e-mails) by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of each e-mail. We provide insight and opinion about gear, artists, technique and the guitar industry for all genres and skill levels. The main differences are the wattage, impedance and construction of the speakers. Each speaker is designed for it's respective amplifier wattage and impedance. KATANA-50 SPEAKER SPECS Katana-50 1x12's use a 8 ohm speaker at 50 watts and a smaller voice coil. KATANA-100: SPEAKER SPECS Katana 1x12’s use an 8ohm speaker at 100 watts. Katana 2x12’s use two 16ohm speakers to equal an 8ohm at 100 watts. Something to point out is that these are not full range speakers. Guitar speakers are mid-range and have a midrange focus to them. A big part of their character is speaker distortion. The important thing to know is that tube amplifiers as well as WAZA, Blues Cube, and Katana dynamically respond to the constantly moving speaker impedance. Those in the SY-300, GP-10, GT-100 will not work with Katana. There is also a tap tempo for time based effects. WAH is the only effect it can control, despite being labelled as 'FX'.
