I decided to replace an 8yr old surround sound system I had in the living room. Since I was so impressed by the C5's, I decided to make another Bose purchase.the Acoustimass 10. I just finished installing the system yesterday. After a bit of tweaking my Yamaha receiver, and the Acoustimass module, I found the sweet spot. It sounds fantastic, especially considering the size of the cubes.I coupled this system with a pair of the Bose in-wall speakers. Honestly, whose wife wants to decorate a room with large floor speakers. In my case, form is important for living room speakers. Function is much better than the basic speakers in the television. All of my cables are hidden. I have had no problems with this speaker system. It can certainly get loud enough.It's a substantial amount of time and cash getting this system installed correctly but, that first tune told me it's all worth it. So, to all you Bose haters, what the heck are you talking about. Correctly paired with recommended components, correctly installed and balanced - this system delivers all the high end crispness, midrange clarity and that low end boom you feel in your whole body. In short, it delivers that believability all true music lovers long for. Oh - and it does a great job on HD, 5.1 digital video content too. If you are not getting great performance out of the Acoustimass 10, then something is not right somewhere. Call the Geek Squad or some other home theater installation pro to diagnose your installation to pinpoint the problem. The great sound is in there. Maybe it just needs a little expert help to coax it out.It sounded great but the size was just too much for my limited space, especially for a 5.1 setup. Luckily, I took a chance on these. I initially wanted to use the 901's as the main left and right for music, and for movies. I connected this system, and I find I don't need the 901s, and my wife is happier with the smaller size. This is an absolutely astounding system, despite the size of the speakers. The sub sits in the corner behind my television. Its a nice feature that they provide all the speaker wire to connect your room. My room is 15x30, and I had plenty of wire to go in the wall, down and across the basement ceiling and back up. I own an Acoustimass 6 simply because my wife won the speaker battle after seeing them demo'ed at a Bose store. (She likes their appearance more than anything). She agreed to stay out of the components and tv if we bought the Bose, so. I picked up the speakers back in January when I found a good deal on them. They sat in the box until last week when I picked up a new receiver (Onkyo 601). No problems thus far, but I ran into something regarding the ohm rating of the speakers that I wanted to ask the group here about. Two people (one a knowledgeable salesperson and the other a friend) have told me that Bose Acoustimass speakers are 4 ohm. Being that my new Onkyo can only push 6 to 8, I started looking through the Bose manual to see if they were correct. I can't help being suspicious here. And why did it take the guy so long to find out. Anyone know what the deal is here? I no longer have mine, I upgraded to cheaper conventional speakers. Dont worry about the purchase they are okay speakers just severly overpriced for what you get. If you havent already considered it, think about getting a true LFE subwoofer with a dedicated amplifier. The Bose bass module only goes down to about 80 Mhz and a good seperate sub will get you down to 20. You can hide the sub in a corner or behind a chair and it will really fill out the sound and give you that extra punch. Thats the ONLY thing this company does well. And oh yeah, they try to hide their specs. It will continously vary with frequency and load. So even if the speaker syas 8 ohms, it will most likely dip down lower than that at times. The Bose speakers generally average around 6 ohms. They will be fine with your receiver. As much as I hate to admit it, if I was doing a home theater for a small walk-in closet, the system would be just great. If you notic e this decrease, be aware that your system is functioning as designed. This volume reduction also indicates that power input to the system may exceed safe levels. Sustained listening at these levels is not recommended.The setting made at the f actory is meant for use in the most common room arrangements. By turning the knob, you can adjust the re lative level of the low-frequen cy ef fects from movie soundtracks. Use it to match the volume level of the LFE channel with volume levels of your other speaker channels. Y ou can check all levels by using the “test tones” feature on your digital surr ound sound receiver.
