Service from mypilotstore was outstanding. It's been doing great even though the leather part has to be replaced when it's worn out. High quality and excellent performance. We fly a wonderful and noisy 1947 KZ7, a tube, wood and fabric tailwheeler. The engine is a 6-cylinder with tuned exhaust, no mufflers. The ANR (Active Noise Reduction) was considerable on the older Bose X between not-on and on, like 1 to 2. To experience the difference of the old Bose X (ANR-on) with the new Bose A20 (ANR-on) is like another 1 to 2. Just amazing. The audio is much better and the clamping force is less. I do not know anything about other brands and their performance. I will stay with Bose, it is comfortable and worth the money. Does the music cut out when a radio transmission is received. Can I make a phone call, talk and listen when plugged in? When you receive an ATC transmission, the AUX (phone or music) will cut out and then fade back in after a second or two of radio silence. There is a DIP switch on the Bose A20 that allows you to override that so that the AUX never cuts out but that's not usually recommended. That will have the standard dual plugs that you need to them convert to the XLR-5 that is used in the Airbus with the Fixed Wing Headset to Airbus Adapter. Can I directly use it with my IPod, Mac or mp3? Or, you can even get an entire new cable assembly if you don't want to use an adapter. And are both dual plugged? It is powered exclusively by the AA batteries in the battery box. The panel powered version requires you to have a special 6-pin Redel connector (also known as a LEMO) installed in your aircraft. It does not use the standard dual male plugs that you are probably used to seeing. This version gets the ANR power directly from the aircraft electrical system and gets the power for the bluetooth from the battery box. If in doubt, the battery powered version is usually the best choice. However, Bose does not make claims about the level of noise reduction because a single number cannot tell you much about what you will hear when you use the headset. We encourage you to give the Bose A20 a try in a variety of aircraft to experience the noise reduction for yourself. If you're not 100 happy, you can return it for a full refund. Custom carrying case helps protect headset during storage and transport. My motivation for purchasing the bose was the Lightspeed is difficult to get the ear cup location just right, it feels bulky. It didnt seem like I could adjust the headset to fit. From a comfort standpoint, the Lightspeed does have a slight edge with the soft ear pads and less clamping force. But I believe the less clamping force reduces the passive noise reduction. The major reason for seeking a different headset is do not like the microphone and side tone of the Lightspeed. Both in transmit and intercom, the lightspeed is not clear and seems to have a delay. Back to the Bose, it is worth every penny and wiring the LEMO jack was straight forward- Im very glad I did it. James O September 2, 2019 I fly in a Skyhawk a lot and have used a DC Pro X for the past two years. The Bose headset is a bit more money, but has at least twice as good noise cancelation and better Bluetooth controls. Both headsets work very well though and I highly recommend buying the best headset you can afford.
