Speaker placement is key, because a 3in distance in my setup was the difference between muddy vocals and stupidly low bass octaves. I am using 12ga speakerwire from blue jean cables. The speaker wire is a tight fit with spades but worth it. The equalizer comes with crappy rca cables, lol, I don't think so, I am using monster m1000i, I like their flat sound, so I have kept them over the years. The eq is thrown into the mix by the preamp out from my passive pre-amp and the eq feeds the 565 monoblocks by adcom. Music and movies are breathtaking in their clarity and power. Amplification is provided by an Onkyo Integra receiver and a vintage Soundcraftsman 2 channel amp. The 901s are powered by the Soundcraftsman giving each of them 175 watts of dedicated encouragement. The center channel and the rear speakers are powered by the Integra. I haven't hooked them up yet. I have to repair the rear speak covers stays. Because I listen to music somewhere around 200 watts per channel, the rear covers blow off. No biggie. Been designing and building Professional Sound Systems 30 years in the Entertainment Industry so I am positive that I can improve the design and update it with present technology. I can hear things that I couldn't on my old speakers. I've had a lot of different speakers in the past years. These Bose have a unique sound. They lack the deep bass which can be obtained with the use of a separate sub woofer if your listening style requires that extra punch. The clarity on these are amazing. I can hear the bass guitarist sliding their fingers on the strings and the vocalist take a breath before the next line. I finally 30 years later bought a pair of the series VI with eq. These speakers are amazing. The highs, the mids, the lows all come to life as if your at the show. Only thing is to make sure that you place them properly. 80 of the sound comes out of the back of the speaker so place at least a foot and a half away from the wall. If you can place them in a corner even better with a foot and half away from all walls. Its as if you have surround sound and boy can these things crank. He thinks they are the cats meow. So I searched craigslist and I found a pair of 901s for 200 dollars. Then the guy throws in a beautiful working Kenwood KA 7300 amp. I like my Bose 301's better then these 901 VI. Perhaps it's the amp I have the associated speakers to what. There are several companies that offer the drivers, and replacing them for both pair is around 560.00-Plus the time involved.I need to do a repair on the equalizer. Amazon Customer 5.0 out of 5 stars I had to go out of my way to get audio equipment to support it since most modern receivers don't allow for the pre-amp to be output and don't have tape-monitor circuitry that is needed to connect the requisite equalizer. I connected it to a 200wpc Adcom amp and the sound is incredible. It actually sounds much better than most peoples surround sound systems in my opinion.I have them properly set up, per the owner's manual, and they are pretty awesome. I drive them with a 500 wpc amp, and they never distort. They fill the house with sound, and there's no need to sit in a sweet spot to hear great sound. As for the naysayers, most haven't actually heard them, and those that have, more than likely the speaker's weren't set correctly. Just browse through images online, and you will see them stuck in bookcases, corners, against walls in tight spaces, or turned backwards. As with most speaker's poor recordings sound poor, and great ones sound great. The EQ is a lot of fun to play with on different material. I get plenty of bass, and crisp, clean highs. The midrange is warm, and never fatigues. I listen to everything except classical, and country music. To me these perform best with pop and rock, especially live recordings. Don't pay any mind to the Bose bashing parrots, do yourself a favor and try them.I was in a coffee shop and recall hearing the warm sounds of the 901 series. I could not place where the speakers were located. I asked the owner and he pointed them out. It was a small coffee shop and I was stun by the 3D quality of a stereo set. I bought them and I bought them again at a bargain price after my old ones needed replacement. I have a 20x14 living room and it provides the warm 3D realistic sounds when place properly. This is the key. The music envelopes the room and you can not place the music from the speakers themselves. They are still good today and compete very well with the so called high end speakers for a small to medium size room.Matched with Cardas Golden Ref speaker cables, Cardas Golden Ref IC's, Simaudio Moon W5, AI M3B pre-amp, and Cary DAC, WOW!!!
