Where can I get these???It never hurts to ask. Second, if no luck there look at this manual that can be downloaded (in PDF form) for your 701's and see if by chance any 'Computer Electronics Store' might have something similar that you can use in it's place. But your best bet is the first suggestion for the cables. Third, if no such luck there, then you'll just have to search on Ebay, Craigslist, Audio forum websites, etc.Good Luck!:thmbsp. It's free! Anyway, I've kept them for about 8 years and I have since replaced them with some Energy speakers and a nice sub. The cabinets look really cool though. I tore them apart last night and the configurations on top has 2 paper tweeter (one facing front and on towed in at a 45 degree angle) with a paper midrange firing to the side. I thought I might replace them with something a little better and end up with a decent pair of towers. Is there any reason the midrange fires 90 degrees to the side from front. Is midrange non directional. The speakers have 3 wires going to them and I'm used to 2. One on one pole and 2 on the other. Any idea why? There looks to be a capacitor of some kind on the midrange. WTF? The first 701s were cool looking speakers. I'll post pics of the inside tongiht.I'd guess your mids are probably OK, you want more highs, right?I'd give Parts Express some business. Chances are you might not need a crossover, but that depends on the frequency range of the new speakers. I might have the crossover schematic here. Either the grilles come off, or you go in through the back. The upper compartment was stuffed with foam.I just can't see HTF you could ever get to them to replace them. Something went wrong. There's a succession of phases which need to be considered prior to reaching the crucial point. The critical point is also referred to as the end of the stage. It isn't important if the conductor is dry or wet. In a similar manner, a running medium is going to be broken down into two conductors. If there is current flowing between both of these conductors then an electrical field will develop at the intersection. Whether this junction is on a circuit afterward there'll be a brief circuit. Consequently, if the grade of surgery is near the critical point then an overload condition may develop. The crucial point is where a blend of all of the phases involved in the circuit must work properly and economically. If the voltage across the wire is not enough then the resistance of the cable and the insulators will stop the current from flowing into the other part. Once you know the critical point, you can find out the phase diagram which includes there. Phase diagrams aren't always so simple to comprehend, also there are lots of situations that could produce two paths of equal periods, and make it hard to ascertain which goes to which part. It would be impossible to obtain the end of the phase diagram because the two paths could have exactly the very same points at the crucial point. It would also be very difficult to ascertain whether the current through a conductor is normal or sine wave. When you have identified the last phase that will finish the circuit then you can discover the energy rating of the circuit. By using this information it is possible to find the perfect match for your own circuit. As soon as you've located the ideal match, you are able to make adjustments to the component values that enhance the efficiency of the circuit. Being aware of what's the critical point on a phase diagram can allow you to get the best possible game. You may always use some kind of feedback control to help prevent any sort of disturbance. Alternately, if there's a very low resistance element in the critical point, it might be possible to generate a large impedance path by making some alterations to the element values. Understanding what's the critical point on a phase diagram is very important once you are designing circuits. As soon as you understand what's the critical point on a phase diagram, then you can use this info to enhance the total performance of your circuits. Page Count: 12 Please read and follow the instructions in this owner’ s guide. That should ensure pr oper operation and performance of your speakers. For your r ecords The label on the bottom of each 701 speaker shows the serial number. And the multi-chamber bass enclosure in each one r eproduces low fr equencies free of audible distortion. So it delivers a wider band of pure, deep bass than conventional designs that ar e considerably lar ger and more costly. Unpack the speakers Carefully unpack the speakers and inspect each one. If either speaker appears damaged, do not use them. Repack both speakers in the original carton and notify your authorized Bose dealer immediately. CAUTION: T o avoid danger of suffocation, keep the plastic bag that wraps these speakers out of reach of babies and children. The thin film may cling to nose and mouth and prevent br eathing. Figure 1 The product label on the bottom of the speaker indicates if it goes on the left or the right side of your room. T o pr event injury to children and pets, and to protect your speaker investment, do not place your 701 speakers in high traffic ar eas where they can be accidentally knocked over. Where to stand the speakers The product label on the bottom of each speaker indicates “Left” or “Right” (Figure 1). For best acoustic performance, stand the left speaker on the left side of your r oom. Stand the right speaker on the right side. Place the speakers 6 to 20 feet (1.8 - 6 m) apart and at least 2 feet (.6 m) fr om side walls (Figure 2). Make sure each speaker is at least 2 feet (.6 m) fr om your TV screen, to prevent video interference. For more bass r esponse, move your speakers closer to the walls of your room. T o r educe bass response, move them farther fr om the walls. This will soften heavy or booming bass. For the best performance, it is important not to block the acoustic port at the rear of each speaker. Ceiling 6 - 20 ft (1.8 - 6 m) Floor Side W all Side W all 2 ft (.6 m) minimum Y ou can find this wire at most electrical and har dware stores. Y ou will need thicker wir e if your speakers will be more than 30 feet fr om a receiver or amplifier. T o run speaker wire thr ough a wall or under a floor Make sure you have enough wir e to reach fr om the receiver to each speaker. Also check your local building code requir ements. Before pr oceeding, you may want to contact an electrical installer for information about your local building or safety regulations. Pr epare the cor d Speaker cord consists of two insulated wir es. The insulation around one wire is marked (striped, collared, or ribbed). Note: It is sometimes dif ficult to distinguish wire markings. Inspect both wires car efully. T o pr epare ends of cor d: 1. Strip approximately 1 ? 2 inch (12 mm) of insulation from both wir es. 2. T wist the bar e ends of each wire. Follow the procedur e described above. Note: Be car eful when using stranded wire. Loose strands should not touch acr oss terminals. CAUTION: Before making any connections, turn off your receiver or amplifier and unplug from outlet (the AC power mains). Not doing so may result in damage to your system. CAUTION: Never use broken or frayed wiring, as electrical shock or damage may result. T ighten any loose connections before you plug in the receiver or amplifier and turn it on. T est the connections T o make sur e your speakers operate corr ectly: 1. Set your receiver or amplifier for MONO (monophonic) and turn it on. 2. Set the balance control to nor mal (center position). 3. Place the speakers less than 6 inches (15 cm) apart, facing each other. 4. Play some deep bass passages of music through the speakers. The sound should seem to come from a point between the two speakers. The bass should be full and natural. If it is not, your connections may be out of phase. T o correct the problem, r everse the connections on the back of one speaker. Then repeat steps 1 - 4. Left Speaker Figur e 3 T o complete the speaker connec- tions. How to find out Disconnect the cords fr om both speakers. Then switch them, connecting the right speaker cord to the left speaker and the left speaker cord to the right speaker. If the previously “br oken” speaker now plays properly, and the other one does not, one channel in the amplifier or receiver is pr obably defective. If the original speaker still does not play properly, call Bose or your retailer to arrange for service. High sound volume drops suddenly. The automatic system protection cir cuit has activated to protect the speakers from electrical stress or overload. Both speakers do not play or sound distorted. Defective amplifier or receiver. Disconnect the amplifier or receiver fr om the speakers. Reconnect the speakers to another amplifier or receiver that is working properly. Return the volume to a reason- able level and avoid extremely high volume settings. Lower the volume. If it returns to normal, your speakers’ automatic protection cir cuit caused the sudden drop. This volume reduction pr otects the speakers from electr onic stress and overload. No other regular maintenance is r equired. How to troubleshoot pr oblems If you have a problem with your 701 speakers: 1. T urn off the amplifier or receiver and check all the connections between the speakers, amplifier, or receiver. Refer to Figure 3 on page 7. 2. Check your amplifier or r eceiver owner’ s guide, since other components may be the cause of the problem. 3. Use the chart below as tr oubleshooting guidelines. Or use the “For Service” information listed on page 10. Bose Corporation will make every effort to r emedy any problem within the terms of your warranty.
