bose 161 speakers manualLearn more or change settings here. Bose 161 speakers are a versatile option for both music and movie listening. They work with your stereo receiver, but can also serve as front or surround speakers in a component home theater setup. This means you get broader, more even sound throughout the listening area. Custom mounting brackets are included to increase placement options throughout your home. They deliver the kind of performance you'd expect from much larger speakers, making it possible to enjoy rich low-frequency sound from smaller speakers. It is just great. Sound fidelity is the best. For your records Serial numbers are located on the label on the back of each 161 speaker. For best acoustic performance, place the left channel speaker on the left side of the room and the right channel speaker on the right, at least 5 feet (1.5 m) apart. The insulation around one wire is striped, collared, or ribbed. These correspond to the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals on the back of each speaker, receiver, or amplifier. If you vacuum the front grille of the speakers, do so carefully. Troubleshooting If you experience problems with your 161 speakers, the following suggestions may help. They need some form of amplification and your home theater receiver would work perfect. You could also use them with a bookshelf stereo receiver and whatever you drive them with, they are very flexible. They include buttons for the bottom or sides to place them on a shelf. The nicest thing about these is using the wall mount. Lots of adjustment when mounted vertically or horizontally and even include screws for the most common mounting substrates. I bought the white ones since my walls are white. Right now, I'm using on my computer that is being used as a home theater. Originally I was using a set of speakers that sounded just fine but wanted a different mounting configuration. They replaced a set of speakers that were Amazon Choice ones and a bit less expensive but when I hooked up the Bose 161's there was a real sound difference. So much so, that I found that I did not need the volume turned up as much on a typical movie or TV show. Even with these budget speakers, it's evident that it's part of the Bose sound and one I do like. Second of all, my older speakers had fine separation from right to left. Same a pretty much every bookshelf speaker out there. The Bose 161's seemed to give the same separation but sounds were more localised. Kind of hard to describe, but had a more 3D where you could point at the sound and my ears and eyes can follow the motion in an action movie. And even the depth to a show that I had never found with my old speakers or any other ones I have. It was a surprise which makes every show just a bit more enjoyable. Now, I know everybody wants a speaker with a lot of low end bass. And if that's what you want, you should have the equalization knobs on your receiver for that or in your device manager on your computer to get the sound you need. Out of the box, these Bose speakers are going to give you a natural sound. You can adjust frequencies as you need with the option of adding a subwoofer to your system. But on their own, they are not going to shake your room or get you tossed from your apartment. But I don't think they were ever designed to be a 901 or 602 replacement. Those are definite lease busters and need an amp to back them up. These are a quality speaker system for home and home theater use. Priced right with the flexibility to position them where you want. Also no need for speaker stands and mounting is included. All you need to buy is speaker wire. Most likely since Bose didn't know the length or color you need. I hope you get a chance to listen to these Bose speakers and add them to you home theater. I've been using them for about a month and a half and pleased with them. The only downside is that the other speakers I have are going to need to be replaced. Since I have 3 subwoofers kick'n around here, this could get pricey.I've been an experimenter with speakers and many of the variables around them for 45 plus years.I had large heavy JBL speakers which took up too much space in my new house. I hooked these up with my old tweeters and they sound just as good as my 800 JBL speakers that I got years ago.I highly recommend these speakers They are located above the kitchen cabinets. The sound is fantastic. I highly recommend these speakers. They have a nice, clean look and deliver decent sound. I wish they had a little more bass, but given their size, I expected as much. My family loves the sound, though. Installation took about 30 minutes thanks to the template included in the instructions. They look nice hanging from my ceiling.Perfect! How can anyone give these nice compact speakers a poor review is beyond me.The speakers produce a rich sound which could be expected from larger and more expensive equipment - I'm delighted and happy to recommend these versatile speakers from BOSE.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Wanted them as a set for my kitchen, with my system in another room--music only, mostly stereo LPs. Mids and trebles sound nice and crisp--what I'd expect from Bose--but there is NO bass, and I do mean NO bass--as in literally NO sound reproduction in certain ranges that I can hear at all. Small speakers, so I didn't expect the world, but these don't just produce a thinner or weaker sound than my good speakers (also Bose), they simply don't play certain ranges. If they are designed to be used in a bigger system with a woofer they should be sold that way, not as stand-alone stereo speakers for which purpose they effectively do not function. The price is not sky-high, but it isn't exactly cheap either--I expect full-range reproduction from speakers at this cost even in this size, and I expect much more from Bose. Very disappointed in these from a name I trust(ed). I'm going back to a set of 10 year old, 40 dollar cheapies that will give me a little less clarity on the highs, but at least produce enough bass that I can hear all of my music.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Muy contento con ellos.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Fifa 17 same as above. Remember? THEY HAVE TO PROGRAM THOSE SOUNDS IN. As for Blu-ray movies you name the movie and the sound you should be hearing during that moment and these speakers can handle it. Why not? I am hearing(still, even 3 years later) that I did not think were possible to be heard. Everything has to be programmed in for Video Games AND for Movies, but this is a 21-year-old episode this past November 5! My Music example: 'Money' by Pink Floyd, EVERY speaker is used at the start of the song when the Cash Registers are getting used. Bottom Line, these Speakers are soooooooo good at Subtle sounds.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Data receive indicator 6 When ON, the READY indicators will illuminate. In the ST ANDBY mode, the unit is off but can be activated through the SEQUENCE connector on the r ear panel of the amplifier. Be sure all connections are made and double checked befor e switching the power amplifier ON. Note Standby (see above) and Sequencing (see below) modes ar e activated at the amplifier only when using the standard input module. For the ACM-1 module, these modes ar e estab- lished via the network. For further detail, refer to instructions included with the network. 220-240 volt version: This version has separate POWER and SEQUENCE switches on the front panel. Pr ess the POWER switch to turn power on (1) or off (0). When the unit is of f, no power reaches the unit and the sequencing function is not active. T o use the amplifier in the normal mode, set the POWER switch on and set the SEQUENCE switch to the of f position ( ). The READY indicators will illuminate. T o activate the sequencing function, the SEQUENCE switch must first be switched to the on position ( ) and then the POWER switch must be tur ned on. The unit will then be in a standby mode and can be activated by the sequence signal. See Section 5.4.8 for additional information regar ding the sequence featur e. 5.3.2 Standby LED Illuminates when the power switch is turned OFF to indicate the amplifier is connected to AC power and the amplifier can be powered up. When the power switch is ON, the standby LED turns off. 5.3.3 AC power fuse Protects the amplifier fr om catastrophic failur es that could damage internal circuitry. Repeated fuse blowing is a sign of internal distress. When fully clockwise, the amplifier operates at maximum gain. T ur ning the controls counter -clockwise attenuates the input signal. Y ou can bypass the Level controls internally to lock the amplifier at its full gain capacity. See the Note about the level defeat switch on page 13. 5.3.5 Status indicators The ON LED illuminates green when the power is on and the amplifier is r eady to operate. The ON LED illuminates red when the power switch is first turned on (while the power supply is stabilizing prior to the speaker output r elays switching in) or when the amplifier is in protect mode. The five SIGNAL LEDs illuminate yellow when a signal is pr esent at the speaker output jacks to indicate output power relative to full power (0 dB). These fault conditions include excessive DC of fset, excessive heatsink tempera- ture, and short cir cuits at the speaker outputs. Note The relays operate independently for each channel. Ther efor e, it is possible for one channel to operate normally while the other is in protect mode. 5.3.6 Data receive indicator Flashes a yellow light when an installed ACM-1 module is r eceiving network information. 5.0 Operation CAUTION Always r eplace with the same type and value fuse indicated next to the fuse holder. For DUAL MONO or BRIDGED MONO operation, use CH 2 input only. See the section on bridged operation for more information. 5.4.2 Clipping eliminator switch Y ou can bypass the clipping eliminator circuit with this switch (located just to the right of the input panel). T ur ning the switch OFF deactivates the clipping eliminator and allows the amplifier to clip when driven beyond its maximum output capability. The clipping eliminator is operational at the point of manufacture (switch in the up position). For mor e information on how the clipping eliminator circuitry works, see Section 4.9. 5.4.3 Input connectors There ar e two input connectors per channel which enable thr ee differ ent types of input connectors to be used. This allows for easy connection of stripped wires to a connector which is provided. T wo parallel input connectors allow for simple connection of parallel amplifiers. Note When in mono mode, use CH 2 input only. Figure 10 Rear panel of the 1800-VI amplifier with the standard input module installed. Figure 11 Rear panel of the 1800-VI amplifier with the ACM-1 module installed. When you install a 502B card in either car d position, it automatically selects the high fr equency output of the other card. Note When equalizer cards ar e installed, the input module automatically senses the car ds and switches to the equalizer circuitry. The module must be removed to access this switch. T o select the high fr equency output from both equalizer cards, engage this switch (HF ONL Y position). The high pass filter begins r educing the signal below 140 Hz and allows the same equalizer card to be used for full range output and bi-amp output. This feature is useful when using two or mor e amplifiers and a 502B module. 5.4.7 Level defeat switch This switch is located above the input module and defeats the CHANNEL 1 and CHANNEL 2 LEVEL controls. When the contr ols are defeated (switch moved to the left) the amplifier gain is set at the maximum level. The module must be removed to access this switch. 5.4.8 Sequencer connector This feature is helpful if you ar e using many amplifiers since it allows amplifiers to sequen- tially power up. This reduces the initial sur ge cur rents fr om the AC power source to avoid tripping cir cuit breakers. The SEND connector of one amplifier is connected to the RECEIVE connector of the next amplifier. T urn the master power off by switching the equipment rack, circuit br eaker or other main power switch of f. The first amplifier in the chain should be in the normal on position. The subsequent amplifiers should be in the standby mode. When the master power is turned on, the amplifiers will sequentially power up. For additional information on switch settings, see Section 5.3.1. The black terminals are internally tied together and to signal gr ound. Use of a differ ent loudspeaker may r esult in permanent damage to the loudspeakers. 5.4.10 Power cord Connect to a properly configur ed outlet pr oviding the line voltage specified for your model.
