Those Nasty People-Killing Guns

or is it People Killing With Guns? Is More Gun Control in Order?

Many people feel that more gun law are necessary to stop the killing that takes place all over the united States every year. With students walking into our schools and shooting their classmates and teachers, something must be done to rein in this epidemic.

We must first take a mature and logical look at what actually occurs when someone is killed by a gun. Many proponents of "gun control" claim that guns are killing too many people every year and we need more gun laws restricting the use of them. Opponents of gun control claim the problem is too many gun control laws and statistics support this argument.

Of course, any logically thinking person knows that guns are an inanimate object and are physically incapable of killing anyone one. Guns are a tool that can be misused just like a car can. Guns require that a person pick it up and point it in a given direction and squeeze the trigger to fire it. The same goal can be accomplished with a sword, bow or crossbow, or sling shot. Guns just do the job of killing the intended target better.

So, logically, we can no longer blame the gun for killing, we must blame the person behind the gun. Maybe we should look at the environment in which crimes perpetrated with guns are carried out.

Most of the time someone pereptrates multiple killings with a gun, it occurs in areas where guns are not permitted. We should also look at the crime rates in cities that have the strictest gun control as compared to other areas that permit with ease the carrying of concealed weapons. There is no question that people carrying concealed weapons reduce crime dramatically. If a robber in a state that does not permit its citizenry to carry concealed weapons want to rob a bank for example, he knows exactly where the guns are. The guns are with either the police officer who is not at the bank at the particular time of the robbery, or with the armed guard. If a robber or robbers want to rob a bank with an armed guard, all he or they have to do is take out the guard first.

This is much more risky in a state where the citizenry carry conceal weapons. Anybody standing in line can be carrying. The would be robbers could enter the building and take the guards gun only to find themselves facing three more guns from bank customers. Just the threat of having to defend themselves from armed customers usually prevents armed robbery. This threat works for most crimes that involve a victim. Take away the guns and create more victims. How else is a 5 foot 2 inch tall, 125 pound female going to protect herself from the 195 pound rapist.

But the 2nd Amendment was not put in the Constitution so that we could protect ourselves from criminals. That is just a bonus. The purpose of the 2nd Amendment was to protect ourselves from an oppressive government.
