On Thursday, February 11th, 2010 a court in Beijing, China upheld an 11 year sentence for a prominent acedemic, a professor, Lui Xiaobo. Xiaobo was a "troublemaker" who had been charged and sentenced with "inciting to subvert state power."
Earlier in the week one Tan Zuoren was sentenced to five years in the Chengdu Intermediate court in Sichuan province for the same charge.
The three year sentence handed down to Huang Qi was upheld on Monday by the same court. He, too, was sentence for "inciting to subvert state power."
Their crimes? Lui Xiaobo called for an end to communist rule. Tan Zuoren and Huang Qi were investigating the deaths of thousands of children killed in a massive earthquake in 2008. The Chinese government said that Tan Zuoren was "commemorating the Tiananmen Square movement" and Huang Qi was said to have "government secrets".
Lui Xiaobo essentially spoke freely his opinion about his government. Imagine this occurring in the united States of America. Oh! It does occur in the united States of America.
To what could this be related in the united States? The Democrats ran the united States for 50 years when they held the majority in Congress until 1992. The Democrat party is the party of the neo-socialist/communist movement in the USA. They could have jailed conservatives for daring to challenge there way of thinking during the 1991 campaigns which won the Republican party a majority for the first time in 50 years.
It would also be the equivalence of my being jailed for exposing the truth about the income tax. The government does not want people to know that there is no law requiring most people to pay a tax on their wages, yet the information is out there.
For more government secrets, how about the exposure of the FBI's handling and thus killing of the children in Waco at a religious "cult's" "compound". It looked more like a big house to me. I have a 5,000 square foot house. I wonder if that qualifies as a compound? Maybe after I build my brick fence.
So, although for many people who are ignorant of the law who might think we do not still live in a free country, we actually still do. We can speak opening about the fallacies of our government and the politicians who run it. We can expose government wrong doing and feel secure in knowing that we will not be imprisoned and have false information released through the state run news media about us, in spite of the left leaning main stream media.
Who should we thank for this freedom. Remember the traitors who protested the returning GI's coming home from Vietnam, or any other war for that matter. Remember how some of these college kids threw dog feces at the GI's? If this were China, those college kids would have been executed. So maybe instead of protesting Gi's and throwing dung at them, you left wing liberals should offer your hand to every military man and woman you see and thank them for protecting not only your right to express your opinions, but for putting their lives on the line protecting your country from attacks like that we saw on 9-11-2001. If not for them, we would be trying to shake the shackles of communism ourselves. And more than likely being imprisoned for it.
