Crouch 5.0 out of 5 stars When you listen to some of the online demos you may be put off, sounds a bit weedy and cheesy, but when mixed with your existing setup via the thru connection, it really does impact the sounds you can create. I've had keyboard synths before so I know how to program sounds, if your haven't there are new sounds online to download and experiment with. A trick lots of synth programmers use is to have a main sound, then a similar sound at a lower volume panned left or right, maybe detuned a bit, to beef up the sound without overawing the mix. Now I can do the same with my guitar. Awesome.http://coralie-de-france.com/FCKimages/20200828005605sxi5n.xmlYou c an pick them up second hand on ebay providing you don't mind another mortgage to get one (think north of ?600). This little Boss unit does a fair job in terms of the sounds you can get and the tracking. The price is far more sensible when you only need it for a couple of numbers a night. On the downside, there are no pre-sets and if you need to change sounds on it during the gig it's fiddly. Just a point about the sounds you might think about setting and using on it. By the same token, less inspiring sounds you set while playing alone can be a whole lot better when mixed with the other guitars. Plenty of experimentation is the key I guess. Author of Gig-Getter and Rouse the CrowdWhere this product fails is the appalling tracking. The pedal is great to play around with but for practical applications (i.e actually using it to create an audible sound) the tracking makes it impossible. Eighth note and sixteenth note patterns, even playing with a pick and muting the bass strings to be as precise as possible, gives a sound comparable to that of randomly hitting keys on an actual synth. The tracking is so bad that even creating a completely artificial bass line using reason software that was mastered and 100 consistent, recorded onto a boss loop station and then played through the SY-5 still came out almost unrecognisable due to tracking issues. The pedal is slightly more manageable with an expression pedal, but even boss' own expression pedals lack the range to fully sweep the decay knob meaning you only get about 50 of the potential use of this when you use the expression pedal. I found that adding a compression pedal pre SYB-5 also helps to manage the tracking but compression is DEFINITELY needed to manage the signal coming out of the pedal because of the extreme volume levels the pedal produces, which means you would need to invest in two compression pedals.http://www.diamondsinthemaking.com/content/3tc-repair-manual In is favour it is a great edition to a good distortion pedal (pre and post (the distortion helps to mask the incomprehensible random out of key notes that the poor tracking produces)) as it gives the distortion an extra dimension. To sum up, if you want a well made synth pedal the Digitech is much more usable and the extra money you save can be invested in impressing the groupies with your drink buying skills at your next gig. You could also put some over time in at work or save a bit more or simply sponge from your parents and buy the Mark Bass super synth. Its expensive but the price comes with the fact that it is almost flawless and works perfectly.Well, two actually. First off, it's VERY LOUD. Much louder than the natural output of an electric guitar. Secondly, it doesn't come with a power cable, and batteries are not a replaceable thing. I've managed to make it work using a 7.5v casio keyboard power adaptor, rather than the recommended 9v Boss adaptor, but even so. Also, by way of expression pedals, a piano-keyboard sustain pedal does the job just nicely;)The problem for me is the tracking. You can't play 16th notes because the pedal won't keep up and the synth tones drop out. You have to dig in pretty hard to get it to trigger reliably - I play quite soft fingerstyle so you might be better off playing with a pick. On the other hand you have to make sure that you mute the strings well, play because it can be triggered by open, ringing strings or even on harmonics. Once it made a horrible electronic screech like a Dalek in pain just as my band was about to start a song - no idea at all why. Overall I would say that lots of experimentation is in order to figure out what it does and when it does it.A little different than the classic boss bass synth. People complain about poor tracking quality. But. I find it's less forgiving to less precise playing.https://cjb-clinicalmarketing.com/images/boss-bass-synthesizer-syb-3-manual.pdf After all, it's a monophonic pedal and a little practice will remove any chance of blips or glitch's (I enjoy the them).Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again These pedals track fast These pedals track fast, but they are limited to.This one is a true bass synth with multiple settings for lots of different sounds. A word of warning: because of the nature of this type of effect, you absolutely must separate the notes you're playing. If you can play staccato, this will suit you very well. I'm not holding that against this pedal because that's about par for the course for pedal synths that aren't designed to be used with synth-specialized pickup systems (like the Roland pickup and synths).Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Apply an expression pedal gives you control of DECAY rate ONLY which I don't know what else you would want to control.add a Source Audio Hot Hands 3 system and blow some minds with the sounds. Another plus is that the SYB 5 has its own internal compressor and doesn't require another compressor before for tracking like other synth pedals need (excluding MarkBass series). Down side: Ive noticed MINIMAL note latency, not anything 100 noticeable but for you purists as you play faster the programming needs to reconfigure your original signal and that takes time. But not enough to make me lose sight of the SUPER abilities this pedal has. I play P bass and I find that the resonation of the pedal decays and mutes a little to soon even with the onboard compressor to answer the problem I put in an active Spector with a Tone Pump Jr.If your looking for a synth pedal pick this up for your arsenal, it is a joy to play with and sounds great.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Make sure you read the pretty simple manual tho. It can be pretty frustrating if you go at it without the manual. 'til you get used to how you combine the settings on the pretty simple, and very functional, layout. Great, solid, BOSS. Get a power adapter tho.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Ghost notes are gone, hammer-ons are about 50 chance, and pull-offs are about 20. Fast runs are not picked up either - eighth notes at 150 bpm can get lost. Works best with an expression pedal (trs connected) to get the most out of the box. Only 3 stars because it's not even Boss' best bass synth. Really worth the extra cash to get one that you don't have to change your style to use, imho.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I had played with it for 2-5 hours attempting to get really great sounds out of it, and it seemed almost impossible. The synth sounds really lacked the synthy type action I had hope. I had heard the tracking occasionally gets off, but it was almost always off. You can't play more than quarter notes without it losing track. They had two settings that I really enjoyed (because it didn't lose tracking), but other than that, I was very disappointed in this pedal after awesome reviews.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again They recommend the Roland EV-5. After I received the SYB-5 I found myself VERY frustrated because I would find a sound that I like but without the expression pedal it would oscillate through a spectrum of sounds that I had no control over. Now that I have the expression pedal I'm really enjoying playing with this pedal and I feel like I could even use it live if needed. I wouldn't recommend it without an expression pedal. I got the EV-5 and it works great to shape the sound. As others have stated the tracking of the SYB-5 can miss some notes if you try to play fast runs but that's not really what it's designed for.alrashed-alsaleh.com/userfiles/files/case-40xt-manual.pdf The tracking also greatly improved when I moved the pedal to 1st in my pedal chain (as suggested in the book) after my tuner. Start at the demo settings in the book and experiment from there. It can be a lot of fun.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again The product is good!! The handling is a bit confusing at the beginning. There are a lot of different modes and settings to understand. The manual doesn't help at all, but one can find a lot of examples and helpful threads and videos on youtube and the rest of the internet. After having understood what's going on, this is a really good synth. The quality of the pedal is also, as known from boss pedals, really good. It comes in a metal framework with heavy duty knobs and high end jacks. Sad that one has to buy a DC adapter. Battery use is not recommended, it's consumption is quite high and the batteries won't last really long. A good manual goes with it, so there is instructions to make any kind of tone. Look for the video reviews if you have questions, but this pedal is one of the best. If you like to play any kind of electronic music than this pedal is the first stage to find out and understand what kind of sound you want. We have tried to play dub step, it does the job. Pros: - Solid body - I like the battery option - Reach sounds Cons: - after sometime you have to tighten the screw on battery bay. In Total: the best in the price range.
