You use the Chorus pedal on the AD-3 to toggle the chorus effects on and off. 1. Press the Chorus pedal. With the AD-3, these elements are digitally simu- lated to obtain the optimal reverb for the acoustic guitar. The AD-3 has two types of built-in anti-feedback features. One sets the howling point with a control knob. The other automatically detects the howling point when you press the pedal. Switching off the power returns the pedal to NOTE its off state. Its built-in footswitchable 2x2 Chorus provides a smooth effect which can be precisely tailored using an onboard depth control, adding just the right amount of stereo sparkle. The reverb is exceptionally deep—perfect for simulating a mic'd acoustic guitar—and can also be adjusted via a depth knob. The Top knob boosts high-end brilliance or can be used to eliminate the thin, dry sound characteristic of most piezo and magnetic pickups, making your tone more natural. The Bottom knob tunes the low frequencies to add the desired amount of rich body resonance.Similarly, its Output section provides a choice between stereo balanced outputs for direct connection to a PA system, or a dedicated Guitar Amp output for plugging in to a guitar amplifier. Acoustic Resonance reproduces the complex resonance characteristics of your unplugged tone, while Ambience provides pro-level reverberation perfectly optimized for acoustic guitar. The AD-2 also features essential stage tools such as a notch filter for feedback control, a balanced DI out for direct connection to a PA, and a convenient mute function for tuning and switching guitars. And as you play with varying techniques, dynamics, and more, this interaction constantly evolves to create the rich, woody sound we love. Unfortunately, the standard undersaddle piezo pickups installed on most stage guitars simply can’t reproduce this resonant complexity.http://principessavencanice.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626c7ca61d5f3---commodore-1570-service-manual.pdf The AD-2’s Acoustic Resonance effect solves this issue by analyzing the input signal as you play, and then employing advanced processing to beautifully recreate your guitar’s naturally evolving tone. Twisting the one-knob control adjusts multiple parameters inside the AD-2 to achieve the perfect tonal balance for any style, from delicate fingerpicking to intense strumming. With the AD-2’s Ambience effect, you can dial in studio-quality reverb for any performing environment. Unlike standard reverbs that can cloud an acoustic guitar’s sound, the optimized BOSS algorithms in the AD-2 produce lush, deep ambience that perfectly complements your instrument’s voice. Like the Acoustic Resonance effect, a simple one-knob control tweaks many interlocked parameters under the hood, giving you access to a wide range of detailed reverb sounds.Connect the Output jack to your acoustic guitar amp or stage monitor, and use the Line Out to send a balanced signal direct to the PA mixer. It’s even possible to turn off the Ambience effect in the Line Out signal, giving the PA engineer the flexibility to add their own reverb at the board. And if you encounter any low-frequency feedback issues on stage, the AD-2’s notch filter has you covered. As soon as you hear that familiar rumble, just turn the Notch knob until it goes away. Please try again Well I bought this in spring of 2017 and used it about a year, then, dissatisfied, bought a BBE Acoustimax and used that for seven months until it failed in the middle of the gig. I went back to the Boss AD-2 by default, and I am happier with it than before, chiefly because it works, but also because it seems to sound better this time around (yeah, subjectivity). While it is a minimalist box with limited tone processing, and some additional EQ from the mixer is nice, it does the job and is still working, by cricky, which counts for a lot when you don't want to be trouble-shooting electronic twilight zone events in the middle of trying to entertain people. The issues we have had with keeping our sound in unfamiliar venues with other systems have not been solved (which I hoped would be solved by some preamp in order to carry minimal gear to gigs in strange places), so we take our own mixer and send a line out. I wouldn't take this box and plug it into an unfamiliar system, but I am at the moment happy using it. This is not a disadvantage if the mixer has additional tone controls, but we found that we were using a lot of EQ. The problem with this is taking it to plug into somebody else's system - then we have to futz with the EQ on an unfamiliar system under time pressure, not good.amorecucinastamford.com/ckfinder/userfiles/files/community-mobilisation-training-manual.pdf This box is really, I think, probably intended to stand at the head of a string of other pedals with additional processing capacities, but a string of pedals is the last thing I want, I want to keep it very simple and just have a very pure acoustic guitar sound. It is hard to say whether all piezos have the same capacities and qualities; what is certain is that the tone can be altered by additional electronics, even as simple as adding a single capacitor at the jack. The less expensive Behringer box has the wrong input impedance for piezos (read the specs) and is perhaps meant for a magnetic pickup plugged into a PA. Baggs and Fishman have boxes that also do the job (that is, that are intended for piezos) which are more expensive and have more bells and whistles, and there are some super-pricey boxes from Grace Designs that also do this (which I will probably never get my paws on). However, I don't have one so I can only say that it looks like it could be more bang for the buck, but I bought the Boss before I saw the BBE, and the Boss works. Our nylon-string guitars have boomy spots around the low A string, 110 hz more or less. The notch filter on the Boss AD-2 takes this right out, no problem at all. I tried one of Fishman's more expensive boxes (which I returned) and could not get the notch filter to take out this problem, don't know why, when it took just one sweep of the dial to find the spot with the Boss. It is specifically tailored to piezo pickups, and whatever sound comes through that pickup is not as important as the type of pickup. The piezo pickup colors the sound in its own way, and some EQ and perhaps other processing is desirable. One of the processors on the Boss AD-2 is a mild reverb, and the other one seems to change the amount of fatness in the mid-range centered around 250 hz ??. I find some additional EQ to be good. Addendum: June 2017. The wiring diagram is in the manual. Well worth the trouble to get the line out cable. I don't know if anybody sells them, it was easier to do it myself and know they were wired right. Why they didn't put an XLR balanced output jack instead of requiring a special cable I dunno.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Well I was right, it eliminated any tin can sound, allowed me to control the resonance, helped make my EQs a lot more pronounced, I now have WAY more control over my sound than I did initially. On top of that, ambience, chorus, and delay effects are built in, eliminating the need to carry external sound processing. Its vast tone-shaping features and intuitive, hands-on controls enable anyone to dial in exceptional sounds quickly and easily. Advanced feedback-fighting capabilities are also on board, making it simple to tackle the sound issues that inevitably come up in different performance venues. And with 10 onboard memories, it’s possible to save favorite setups for different instruments and songs. The AD-10 also supports power via an included AC adapter or batteries, offering great flexibility for any performing situation. With the AD-10’s looper, you have a convenient tool that’s always at the ready for practice, jamming, and stage creativity. The on-demand boost function is great for kicking up the volume for solos or reducing the volume for heavy strumming, and it even includes an adjustable tone control for changing the sound when engaged. The single-knob compressor delivers much more than meets the eye, employing BOSS’s acclaimed MDP tech to transparently control your dynamics with intelligent processing. Acoustic guitars love reverb, and the AD-10’s Ambience effect offers three types of high-quality reverberation specially tuned for guitar. There’s also a delay with standard, mod, and reverse types, plus three different variations of BOSS’s famous sound-widening stereo chorus effect. From the AD-10’s panel, you can choose to send signals to the outputs with or without effects, or assign input channels one and two to independent outputs. There’s also an effects loop for patching in external effects, and a jack for connecting up to two footswitches or an expression pedal for controlling looper functions, volume, tap tempo, anti-feedback scan, and more. However, their noted drawback is a hard, sterile, and “quacky” sound because they only pick up sound from the bridge area, leaving out the body and string resonances that complete the guitar’s rich, complex sound. Magnetic sound hole pickups and other types of systems also provide incomplete sound reproduction, and playing directly into a microphone is impractical in all but the most controlled stage environments. That’s where the AD-10’s innovative Acoustic Resonance feature comes in. Using sophisticated BOSS technology, Acoustic Resonance analyzes your pickup signal and recreates the missing body and string resonances, restoring the elements that are essential for natural acoustic sound. The AD-10’s Acoustic Resonance implementation offers powerful processing, three different resonance types, and the ability to balance the tonal characteristics to perfectly match your performing needs.Your first line of defense is the AD-10’s feedback reduction function, which employs newly developed BOSS technology to seek out and gently suppress the offending feedback frequency. At the same time, your overall tone is subtly balanced as needed for transparent sonic results. For those real problem situations, the AD-10 also includes two separate notch filters that can be tuned manually or set for automatic scanning to instantly vanquish feedback in the background as you play. Each filter notches out both the fundamental and first overtone of the feedback frequency, and the depth of the filters can be adjusted as necessary for the smallest possible tonal impact. The signal path is engineered for warm, accurate tone with ultra-low noise, and each input has adjustable sensitivity for fully optimized processing with different pickup types. Each channel can be adjusted with an EQ section that offers four bands (including parametric midrange) and a widely variable low-cut filter. Unlike standard EQs found in other preamps, adjusting the AD-10’s EQ bands engages multiple interlocking parameters under the hood, allowing for precise tonal shaping with subtle tweaks. It’s also possible to defeat the EQ if desired, and to adjust the phase of each channel independently. The AD-10 is your solution to this age-old problem, offering advanced sound tools that enable you to achieve rich, natural acoustic tones every time you perform. Scott Hodges 5.0 out of 5 stars Been using a Fishman ToneDEQ in the studio and gigging. It sounds good but is lacking in not having a tuner, mute, either delay or reverb not both, lackluster chorus, no feedback control just a phase switch, no memory slots, not stereo. The AD-10 has all of the above and more. Out of the box just in manual mode was able to dial a very good sound. Couple of hours learning the interface and the SUB-PARAMETER settings and playing around with them and MAN. This thing is nice, really nice. I've read a review where the reviewer said everything was subtle or wish they could set how many repeats in the delays. READ THE MANUAL, you've got to go to the sub settings. Someone complained about noise, well the IS a noise reduction circuit go to ADVANCED SETTINGS. Mine is dead quiet with the levels set 12 o'clock on everything going into a very nice Yamaha analog mixer with the same levels as I had with the Fishman. I only gig with one guitar as i do 80 electric but if you do an acoustic thing with two guitars this will handle both independently. I switch back and forth and have to tell him to mute me on the board when I set it down so I don't change my level and I don't want it plugged in eating batteries just sitting there. OH there is a misprint in the printed manual that came with mine that I was trying to make heads or tails about. To switch from manual mode to memory mode it says press and hold the Boost and Delay pedal buttons, repeat to switch back. When in memory mode those buttons scroll up in down. Then it says to go from into stomp box memory mode mode, so that Boost and Delay buttons now do that instead of scroll the memory locations, it says press and hold the buttons. HUH that don't work. I check an online version online and sure enough the misprint is to gone online. To toggle manual to memory you only PRESS the two buttons not press and hold them. So I tossed the included manual and just download the online to my tablet. Will be gigging it in a few weeks will updateBottom line: the AD-10 fits the bill and then some, just be prepared to study the manual and spend some time with the unit. The two guitars I am using with the unit are a Gibson J-185 reissue with a Fishman undersaddle piezo pickup with a Fishman endpin jack preamp, providing a very hot signal. The archtop is a very lively guitar that is bottom heavy with the pickup and has a big resonance at about 230Hz, so it requires some notch filtering to bring it under control. I was pretty happy with the sound of the Gibson, but the archtop sound needed some more extensive tone shaping. The AD-10 allows me to plug both guitars into one unit and has the flexibility to accommodate the vastly differing signal levels and EQ requirements of these two guitars.
